I'm just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze, and love is a riddle
I don't know where to go
Can't do it alone
I've tried, and I don't know why

Roshni sat in front of the computer screen playing with her cereal. Her stomach grumbled from not eating anything since breakfast yet she couldn't bring herself to eat plain cereal. "I thought when you said 'let's have dinner at my place' you were planning to provide dinner."

Yamapi laughed. "Cereal is my dinner." He put the last of his T-Shirt in his duffel bag then moved on to dress shirts.

"You need to get better cereal then." and a new place to live. His crumped apartment was suffocating her and the loud noise from upstair was making her headache worse. She didn't mean to complain, it was just she was really hungry, and it made everything less tolerable for her. "This tastes like cat food." Roshni muttered under her breath.
"Well you would know a lot about that." Yamapi grinned. "Spoke to your cat lately?"

Roshni shook her head in disbelief. "Don't you get tired of the cat jokes?" Roshni asked. She had made a big mistake telling him the cat story. There were only certain things Roshni missed about home, her cat was one of them. One day when she was speaking to her mom on the phone, she had asked if she could put the phone near her cat so she could hear him meow. Yamapi still couldn't let that go.

"Meow!" Yamapi teased then he grabbed the cereal bowl and plopped down on his bean bag chair with his Tablet on his lap.

"Yeah. Finish that while I finish packing for you." Roshni got up and immediately took some stuff out of the bad as he ate and worked. She had watched him pack and he seemed to forget what season it was. First she took out the t-shirts, then the hoodies, then the jeans, and everything else he had stuffed in his small duffel bag. She sat on the wooden floor and unpacked everything he had packed so far.

Roshni looked through the clothes on the floor, occasionaly reaching for stuff from the huge pile of clothes he left on the bed. "You do know it's not winter over there right now, right?"

Yamapi shrugged his shoulder and mumbled something while stuffing his mouth with cereal.

"And you must also know mustard is just not your color?" Roshni said shaking her head. She had seen at least five to six shirts in that color.

"Everything is my color."

Roshni snorted at his comment. "Who told you that?"

Roshni looked up at him for an answer but he was once again stuffing his mouth. She felt a little bad that he found such tasteless food so appetizing. She made a mental note to invite him to dinner more often. She could've done it tomorrow night if he wasn't going away. It had only been a week since Jaejoong joined and he was changing things already. He had decided to send him to LA for two weeks to shoot a major ad...without her. She had protested, reminding him she was his assistant. He told her about the upcoming assingment in NY which supposedly needed her immediate attention. When she protested a bit more, he plainly reminded her if she couldn't handle her job responsibilites alone then maybe she should quit. She shut up then and decided to accept her fate, alone.

Yampai saw her sitting on his floor lost between her thought and his pile of clothes. "Help me pack instead of just sitting there and thinking about that devastatingly handsome devil." Yamapi teased.

"I am not thinking about him." Roshni frowned. He was making fun of her, because those were the exact word she had used to describe Jaejoong two days ago.

Yamapi ignored her response. "Think about him on your own time." He shot a glance at his empty duffel bag. "Since you unpacked all my stuff please pack it again."

"I wasn't thinking about him." She said plainly. She wasn't really lying. She was thinking about what was happening because of him, that was not the same thing as thinking about she told herself.

"Yeah, okay." Yamapi said following a yawn. He reached over and handed her a file. "I went ahead and looked into couple of things for you for the upcoming shoot."

It slightely bothered Yamapi when she just silently grabbed the file and didn't even bother to open it.

"Don't you want to know what is in it?" Yamapi asked raising a brow.

"It's work. I will look at it later. Right now I just want to finish this and go home." The exhaustion and hunger were getting to her. The fact that she was running on less than 4 hours of sleep was making everything worse.

Yamapi twisted his mouth in surprise. " Are you mad at me for that stupid comment? Geez I was just joking, but now seeing your reaction I am afraid the two of you will carry on a torrid affair while I am away."

Roshni blinked at him. "You are annoying me. Have a safe trip." She grabbed the file from the floor and headed towards the door. He can be so irritating sometimes, why would he irritate her more when he knows she is already irritated to begin with!

"Oh come on! I am kidding," he yelled out after her.

After she left, he continued to work a bit more. He waited for her call or text, then fell asleep.

"I have to tell you something" Jouty said knocking on Roshni's bathroom door.

"Give me a minute." Roshni yelled out from inside.

When she came out she found her lying on her bed. That did not make her happy at all, but she tried to put up a calm face.

"What's up?" Roshni asked throwing herself beside her. She was more worn out than she thought she was. She wanted to tell her to come back tomorrow, but knowing her it would upset her. She could do without getting irritated at a second friend today.

She lied on her back to face the ceiling "I think KC and I had a fight."

"How can you think you had a fight?" She paused. "Either you had a fight or you didn't."

"It's because she never really yells at me so when she is upset with me It's hard to know sometimes. Remember that guy.."

"Uh..no" She noticed Jouty's dissappointed look "There are so many guys, I possibly couldn't remember all of them. Refresh my memory."

"That guy who volunteers at the daycare."

"Yeah" She would never quite understand how even at a daycare she seemed to find a lot of guys. It was hard to keep track.

"I told KC to not to talk to him."

"Why? She really liked the guy." Roshni almost shreiked.

"She didn't really like the guy, she liked him just a little." Jouty said trying to defend herself. "Maybe more than a little"

Roshni sat up on her bed.

"It's just I really dislike him. The fact that I see him once a week at the day care is more than what I can tolerate. I would want to shoot myself if I had to tolerate him more than that."

Roshni's looked at her as if she had finally lost her mind. "This is not about you though, just because you don't want him in your life doesn't mean she has to kick him out of hers." Roshni tried not to sound too harsh. "I am sorry if that sounded mean, I just had a really long day"

Jouty shrugged. "It's nothing, Naina was much harsher."

Roshni laughed, she didn't quite know why, must've been the exhaustion. She lied back down.

"Do you remember when we were 9 and we went to the carnival. I wanted those cotton candies so badly, that was all I wanted. So we all got one. But then some jerk bumped into me and I dropped mine."

Roshni laughed at the memory. "How can I forget? We got the last ones, and when you lost yours you immediately burst into tears."

"Don't laugh" Jouty frowned. "Do you remember what KC did?"

"No."

"She threw her cotton candy stick on the floor and stepped on it." Jouty started laughing. "Till this day I never understood why she didn't just share hers with me."

"Because both of you are idiots. Beside sharing would've probably made you mad too. It's usually all or nothing for you." Roshni tried to mimick her at the last part.

Jouty sat up on the bed and nodded. "I never thought of that." She smiled at Roshni. "But she stopped my crying. I was sad because I lost out on the cotton candy but in some horrible, horrible, twisted way seeing her lose out on it  too made me less miserable." She paused. "Uhh I am so horrible."

"You were 9" Roshni said plainly.

"yeah but I am not 9 anymore. She threw away what she liked because I couldn't have it. I guess from then on I always expected that from her. It was wrong of me today."

Roshni sighed. "if you already figured it out then why are you still keeping me away from my sleep?"  Roshni groaned.

Jouty laughed. "if you were tired you could've just said so." She said getting up from the bed.

Roshni readjusted herself right away, incase Jouty remembered another story she wanted to share.

"Yeah and then you would've been unhappy with me."

"I would..never!" Jouty crossed her arms "I.."

Roshni interrupted. "Tell me tomorrow! I am exhausted."

"Fine, I will go talk to KC then." Jouty stomped her way to the door.

Roshni woke up early next morning when her phone vibrated for the third time. At first she thought she was hallucinating when she saw his name on her phone.

"It's Saturday" Roshni grumbled into the phone.

"Yes I know, but I really need you to check out couple of sites with me today." Jaejoong sounded pretty cheerful for 5'o clock in the morning.

She guessed he was not running on four hours of sleep like her. "I don't know if someone told you this, so please listen to this carefully: I DON'T WORK DURING WEEKENDS." Roshni was surprised as she heard herself snap at her her boss.

"Cranky woman I will keep this really simple for you. The wedding ad shoot is on Monday, you need a location. Last time I checked you didn't have one." He paused a second before adding on the next comment "Unless you forgot your boyfriend is out of town so this one is all on you."

Roshni found herself clenching her fist. The comment was wrong from so many direction she didn't even know where she would start in correcting him. "I can do this on my own" She mumbled. "I don't need you help. Thank you for your concern though." She tried to sound as cold and bitter as possible. She heard him laugh at the end of the other line.

"We will see about that. I am outside of your building, you have 10 minutes to get down here before I consider hiring a person for your position." Jaejoong said looking at his clock. "Maybe you would be interested in helping me pick out a replacement from those eager interns we have."

Before Roshni could snap at him again he hung up. For first few minutes Roshni continued to lie on her bed. She thought of all the reasons to dislike him. So far he has mocked her, he constantly questions her ability to do her job, he threatens to fire her, it wasn't enough that he ruins her weekdays now he must ruin her weekend too, he won't let her sleep, he is stalking her at the moment, and the worst of all he has sent Yamapi away. Roshni sighed. She should've called Yamapi last night for rushing out on him. She felt a slight twinge of guilt. As for Jaejoong, as irritating as the guy may be, he had a point, she needed a place and she needed it now. She dragged herself out of bed and headed downstairs fifteen minutes later with the file in hand.

To Roshni's surprise he did not say anything when she got in his car. No sarcastic comment, no hello, no arrogant smile. He just handed her a coffee.

"Thanks" Roshni said softly, trying to be nonchalant about it. Even though she disliked him, she thought it was a kind gesture on his part. Although it did not make up for all the other things he has done lately.

"Sorry, it's cold." Jaejoong said as he started driving to their location.

He sounded quite sincere. Roshni wondered what was up with his hot and cold, bipolar personality. Twenty minutes ago he was being extremely rude and threatening to take her job, now he seemed to be sincerely apologizing for cold coffee. The man needs to get his priorities straight.

"It's fine I guess" Roshni shrugged. She took a sip, and wanted spit it back out. Cold coffee indeed, cold coffee from the cold man, what a way to start the morning.

"So first we are starting at the Met, if that doesn't work out we will check out couple of other locations."

Roshni looks out the window and nods. She didn't bother asking him what would they even do at the Mets at such an early hour, it doesn't even open till 9:30.

When they got there she found out. They simply went there to watch the sunrise. Roshni wanted to mock him at first. But she changed her mind. She has come to the Met dozens of times. What can be a bigger source of inspiration than the paintings in the Met, but she never seen it like this. The sun was starting to come out and it shone brilliant shades of pink, purple and orange on the steps of the museum. She watched him hop from step to step. He looked a little funny, all dressed up in his designer suit hopping from step to step like a child.

"Did we come here to play?" Roshni yelled out.

"Maybe" He said laughing. He saw her sit down on one of the steps, and decided to join her.

She didn't say anything, and for the first time she didn't really seem to mind his company.

"It's really pretty here." Roshni said looking around at the steps.
You know I have lived her all my life and I have never seen anything like this." She turned and looked at him. "Sort of sad, isn't it?"

Jaejoong smiled. "It's not sad at all. Sometimes you just need to be dragged out of bed at 5 am in the monring to see such things" Jaejoong said grinning.

Roshni nodded. She was starting to like him more. May be he wasn't devil he was pretending to be, but he was still devastatingly handsome.

"Are you ready to go?" Jaejoong asked getting up.

"Where?" Roshni was confused.

"Up there." Jaejoong said pointing to the roof. "Playing time is over" Jaejoong said offering his hand.

Roshni hesitated for a mere second but then took it and raised herself up on her feet.

Roshni didn't know going into the museum before opening hours was allowed. She quickly realized a lot of things are allowed when your mother happens to be a member of the board for the Museum. She was taken back by the silence in the museum, she has never experienced this before. The only noise she could hear were the loud clicks of her heel.

If she had thought sunrise from the steps were beautiful then sunrise from the roof garden was out of this world. She grabbed the railing and looked at the breathtaking view of the city. "This is perfect!"

Jaejoong turned and looked at her. She liked it. It made her happy that she liked it. She hadn't really liked him since he came back, but seeing her smile like that gave him hope. They had been friends once, he was hoping they could be friends again. It seemed like Roshni had changed so much over the years, she seemed so different. he was hoping to find the old person again before telling her who he was.

Roshni looked at Jaejoong. "Even I would want to get married here. It's beautiful." Roshni wanted to squeel. "We can pull off the classic lovers meeting at the rooftop story here."

"Maybe. Come on I have one more location to show you." Jaejoong said grabbing her hand.

"But this is perfect." Roshni reminded him.

"That is perfect too." Jaejoong said.

"Where is that place? Roshni asked as she followed Jaejoong who continued to hold her hand.

"My backyard."

Roshni pulled her hand out his and stopped walking. "Isn't that a little ridiculous?" Roshni paused. "Even if you have a really nice backyard I doubt it can top this." She saw a flicker of emotion in his eyes which she always found a little cold.

"You can't decide till you see it." Jaejoong said narrowing his eyes.

Roshni stayed silent for the whole car ride. Just when she thought she was starting to like the guy he started to seem ridiculous once again. That rooftop certainly tops every other wedding location. She hasn't even thought about marriage but if she were to get married now she would like to get married at that place.

Jaejoong watched Roshni look out the window again. He didn't know why he was doing this. They had spent countless of hours every day in his grandfather's garden. He never really cared for it much till she had told him it was so pretty that she could get married there. He thought she was silly then, but now he just wanted to remind her of the location again.

  1. I think I have read this... if not its has a sense of deja vu... I like the descriptions you have added they are good but could be better... The dialougue had flow and the best I have enjoyed about this is that there is other side stories to it rather then just on the main leads... I loved it... :D

  2. okie, we all know how bad I am with typing up the comments.

Wow, when I read this chapter I honestly loved it. I felt like it was laying everything bare...<--does that make sense? b/c reading it over I don't think so.

I loved the opening. I do get cranky when I am lacking sleep and hungry. My patience and tolerance goes down. I do tend to become upset alot easier then usual and heaches are annoying. Closed places especially with other people would most likely be annoying and suffocating.

Alot of the things in this update were spot on me as I just pointed them all out. That makes me love this update even more.

I do talk well atleast respond to my cat when he meows at me :D

It was cute really really cute when Yamapi was teasing her.

It amused me how she basically unpacked everything he packed and just left it unpacked.

I love how Jaejoong keeps popping up in her mind even when she makes an effort to not to think of him. "devastatingly handsome devil" you took the words out of my mouth!!

"torrid affair" that just made me go kekeke :D

I had read scenes of this before but it comes together beautifully!

I thought it was sweet with KC and Jouty and the cotton candy and the Jouty and Roshni scene. <-- too many ands in that sentence :p

Fatima Jaan they were spot on and very realistic b/c I do act like that when I am on lack of sleep.

Naina would be harsher then me and you would have been unhappy with me *nods nods*

I don't wake up early on Saturday nowadays... I used to but lately I haven't been able to before noon...which is so bad.

I need to see more sunrises. haha She can afford to snap at her boss since he won't fire her..he better not!!!

I love how he is feeling out Roshni and Yamapi's relationship and keeps riling her on.

I am not a coffee person...but I don't think I can say that but I love the fact that you made it cold because I am addicted to french vanilla iced coffee in the morning :D

The scene on the steps of the museum and on top was beautiful.

I can't wait to read about the backyard and if she remembers.

One of the reasons I love this is because it is so realistic and I can see this happening. Roshni's reactions and words are spot on and just like me. You know me too well jaan.'

I really I can't point out any bad parts in here because I am fond of this episode. It was absolutely perfect in my point of view. Nothing could be wrong with it. This has to be one of my favourite ever chapter written on Roshni.
