Roshni felt around the night stand searching for her irritating alarm clock. When she couldn't find it she buried her face under the pillow, and tried to catch few more minutes of sleep. She could hear the door open.
"Why aren't you turning that thing off? It's driving us nuts" KC walked around Roshni's bed in quick little steps. She picked up the alarm clock from the floor and turned it off. "You have work, get up!" KC said as she pulled the window curtains to a side and tied the ribbon around them neatly. She glanced at Roshni and then left.
Roshni tossed and turned for few more seconds than sat up straight. There was no point of lying in bed. It wasn't going to get any better. She dragged herself to the bathroom hoping for a nice warm , no cold shower to prepare for the horrible Monday. That ought to wake her up.
"Good morning!!" KC greeted Roshni as she sat at the breakfast table.
Roshni quietly grabbed a bowl and poured some cereal and milk. She noticed the pair of eyes watching her with a mischevious smile.
"Soooooo.." Naina dragged her word waiting for Roshni to spill the beans.
Roshni just stuffed her mouth silently. She is not in the mood to humor anyone this morning. Everything in her life was going wrong, from the smallest thing to the biggest. Last week she found out her company was going under a new management. Well not totally new, but still new. The new CEO will be bringing new office staff with him. Chances are her job won't last long. It has only been a year since she joined Zenith company. The others have been there for 2-3 years at least. Roshni had a very hard time dealing with the idea of losing her job.
"Ah. Don't make me beg for it. I heard you come in last night slamming the door twice!! What happened? " Naina asked hoping for some juicy bit of information
Roshni was a bit too busy sorting out her inner thoughts. She didn't wish to talk about it. She quietly finished her breakfast then grabbed her purse.
Roshni cleared her throat. "Wish me luck." she muttered. "Today is going to be hell of a day" Roshni said as she headed towards the door. "Be ready to dish out more money in case I lose my job".
After Roshni left the apartment. Naina turned toward her roomates. "Am I the only one who wants to know what happened?"
"If she doesn't want to talk about it then she doesn't want to talk about it." KC shrugged her shoulders as she sipped her coffee.
Naina narrowed her eyes in slight disappointment. "You..!! I know that you want to know as much as I do" Naina said to Jouty.
"I was hoping she would come and talk to me about it" Jouty said breathlessly as she tried her best to hold her yoga position. She was lying. She really wanted to know, but what kind of a friend would pry just to satisfy her own curiosity. She will just let Naina be the devil.
"She is worried, really worried. By the looks of it she didn't sleep at all last night" Naina said trying to think of all the different reasons.
"You could be right" KC said "Are you done? I have to clean up quick and go somewhere?"
"I am right!..now that I am thinking with two brains I feel I have gotten wiser, and No I am not done" Naina grabbed another piece of toast and placed it on her plate "I am eating for two now you know"
"Hah!" Jouty laughed sarcastically.
Naina calmly took a sip of her orange juice, and then she smiled and turned toward Jouty. "At least I have a reason you know" Naina smirked
Jouty looked at KC for backup, she always did that when she was out of words, or ideas, or anything for that matter.
"I am staying out of this as always. I have to wake Salma up. She has a test today" KC gave both of the girls a serious warning look as she went to Salma's room. She did not want her kitchen messed up like last time, it took her 2 days to clean it up last time. Now that these two can't attack each other physically they took it out on her kitchen.
Roshni tapped on the desk with her pen. Her new director sure was a slacker. He was already late to his first meeting. She looked around across the conference room, spotting her most two annoying colleagues across the table. She frowned slightly and looked away. If the new director fires anyone, it should be those two.
"Don't frown, premature aging."
Roshni looked up to see her best friend take a seat beside her.
"Yamapi, You are late!" Roshni said in a low voice.
"Why does it matter. The guy is not even here yet." He took a sip of his coffee.
"But what if he was here?" Roshni asked.
He turned to her with a smile. "Then I am sure you would've covered for me. And you would have taken all the right notes to make sure I would not miss anything."
Roshni made a mean, annoyed face. "This is not a classroom you know, you can't just get away with it because you borrow my notes."
"Here drink this." Yamapi offered his coffee.
"Why?"
"You look terrible." Yamapi said noticing her tired eyes.
"I feel terrible." Roshni grumbled.
"How was it?"
Before she could answer she saw a group of men walk into the conference room. All dressed in a similar fashion except one.
"I guess he would be the one." Yamapi said observing the men.
"I think I know him." Roshni whispered.
"Who?"
Roshni rolled her eyes in irritation. Obviously none of the 4 men in black, wearing sunglasses indoors. Beside they all looked similar. She couldn't even tell one apart from another. "The one in the white shirt."
He stopped in front of the table and glanced at everyone. She couldn't be sure but she felt his eyes lingered on her for a second longer.
"Good morning everyone! I am Kim Jaejoong. I know I am about.." He paused to check his watch "about 1 hour 27 minutes late, but assure you it was not my fault. My guards over here took a long time styling their hair."
The room erupted into laughter as his guards didn't have a single strand of hair on their head.
"Well at least we know he is not funny." Yamapi muttered only loud enough for her to hear.
She tapped his arm lightly. "At least he is making the effort to apologize. Unlike someone I know."
"Who me? When have I ever done something wrong and not apologized for it?" Yamapi turned to her in shock.
Roshni smiled. "Remember that one time.." Her eyes caught his in front of the room. This time he was really looking at her, and she was not imagining it.
"I am sorry. I am waiting to start the meeting, but do finish your one first." He grinned mischievously.
"I apologize." Roshni replied, clearly embarrassed. She turned to focus on the notepad in front of her.
Yampai turned to look at him. Not sure what to think of this guy just yet.
3 hours later Roshni found herself sitting in front of her new boss. She looked beside her to see Yamapi. He didn't even look a bit nervous. Did he not realize he might lose his job?
"So what is it that you do again?" He asked Roshni as he looked through some files.
"She is my assistant." Yamapi answered.
Jaejoong looked at Yamapi. He was clearly amused. "Thank you for answering, I would really appreciate it if she answered for herself. She can speak, can't she?" Jaejoong turned to look at her.
Roshni felt a little irritated, not sure at who though. "I am the assistant art director."
"I can see that, but what is it that you do exactly?" Jaejoong asked tossing the files on the table.
"I assist him at every stage of an Ad development." Roshni answered. She wondered why he looked so familiar to her.
"Is the relationship strictly professional?" Jaejoong asked.
Yampai sat up in his chair. "What kind of a question is this?" He tried to keep his voice as calm as possible, although his angry glare gave it away.
"No need to get mad. I just found fifteen cases of office affairs from the human resources department. We don't need to add another to the list. If she is your assistant I need to know she is here because she deserves it, and not because she is sleeping with you."
Roshni's mouth parted in shock. It has been only couple of hours since he was here and he was already assuming she was sleeping with Yamapi? She wondered if looked like one of those...tramps who sleeps at her job. Her? really? "I can assure you we not having an affair. As a matter of fact he doesn't even like me on most days. I don't like him much either, on most days that is. We are good friends though, best friends you may say. Just friends though. There is absolutely nothing between us. I mean just last night I was on a date with another guy.." Roshni paused when she realized he was laughing at her. She should just stop talking. Usually she didn't talk much. Once in a while she blabbed, but never to a stranger. She just had a strong urge to explain everything to him. Good thing he was not laughing out loud, his eyes looked amused, as if he was laughing inside. Roshni turned to look at Yamapi. He seemed just as amused, if not more. She felt her shoulders sink.
Jaejoong waited for few minutes. "You guys can go back to work now."
After they exited his office Jaejoong laughed. He wondered how time hadn't changed her at all.

saving spot here so I can come & comment in the morning
ReplyDeleteRight where do I start...
ReplyDeleteFirstly Naina and Jouty... They are the real cartoons of the story... Messed KC's kitchen... :P
Roshni is a character i am still trying to figure out. she is quiet but I guess she knows her crew has her back. Yamapi sounds like the creative clown... smart witty and funny... nice and as for Jaejoong.... Hotness at its best :D
I loved the way the story has flowed... Its natural Good Job... Well done and waiting for part 2 patiently :D
So since I can't edit my post grrrrr... You already know how I feel about this. I gave you a live commentary the first time you posted it up.
ReplyDeleteI love love love love love this!
This beginning is wonderful. You have a way of writing where you manage to get the relationship across in a few short words. Your characterization of each character is beautiful.
Roshni -loll- what can I say. I so totally would be slamming doors instead of confiding in anyone. I usually do tend to brood by myself and maybe later on include other people.
Naina and Jouty, I love their friendship! I like how you have stated that Naina is pregnant without actually stating it! KC, the big responsible sister whose kitchen is in so much trouble. hehe.
Yamapi, his character is wonderful. I loved how close he is to Roshni. He is presented like a brother but I get the feeling that he might like her. I love how blunt he is because that is how he actually is. I love their bantering!
Jaejoong and Roshni -sigh- I loved the fact that she could tell he was laughing at her when he wasn't laughing out loud. I love these types of scene. It manages to get the intimacy and their connection across which I find more romantic. I love how she thinks she knows him but he isn't sure and he came back! yaaaaaay!!
I would so totally be irritated if someone asked the question and Jaejoong's frankness is him.
In case, it hasn't come across yet...
I LOVE THIS FIC!!!!!!!
I think I used the word love a bit too many times in here...hehe
I'm pregnant?!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I should be happy or shocked or amused. Let's just say that's the emotions I went through in order while I was reading it. Why is it that you have to make me the devil conspirator person? -pouts- but I can see that the Naina character just wants to know if Roshni is alright or not, so her intentions are genuine.
As for Yamapi, is he my baby daddy? *just kidding* I don't wanna be whacked by Rosh.
Yamapi as best friend, seriously? That would be hard for me not to jump his bones. *BTW, I'm so getting whacked by Roshni*
I love that Jaejoong was so curious about the relationship between Yamapi and Roshni. Like the jealously had already built up. His relief is evident at the end of the story, and he's happy that Roshni is still her crazy self.
Overall, love it!! 5 stars!
^ at least it's not triplets!
ReplyDeleteAnd I know the Yamapi feeling jaan. *sigh*
