It is said that no one is really a stranger; we are all connected through a network of people. Some believe in this while others deny it. The world is a pretty small place considering the amount of people inhabiting it. Yet across the oceans on different sides of the earth, two people test this theory and feel the magic of the season known as winter.

KC's life as an assistant for the fashion designer Marguerite in France had become routine. She felt as if she was a robot, everything was the same everyday. Life was not always like this. There was a time when she was a very lively and outgoing person, but the death of her dear friend changed all of her life and turned it upside down. With this death her personal life went down the drain and everyday became a drag.

Oceans away in South Korea a lonely soul goes through life everyday as if it was his last day to live. His outlook on life had changed a lot recently as he had become more and more interested in his volunteer work at the children's hospital. He knew that he couldn't save the whole world but helping even one person would make the difference in the world. Even though with this outward appearance he still felt the loneliness in his heart left by the death of his dear friend. This death changed his outlook on his life and taught him to appreciate every single day.

Now how do these lonely souls come across each other? Well that's what you have scheming friends for isn't it?

KC is sitting in her backyard just staring into space and thinking about what has her life become when two lively girls enter the house.

Naina: [at the top of her lungs] Baji! Where are you?

Jouty: We know you don't have work today. You've got to be here somewhere.

KC: I am in the backyard you guys.

Naina comes running to through the doors and gives her a hug while Jouty waits until her turn.

KC: So what brings you guys here?

Naina: oh we just wanted to see our wonderful baji.

Jouty: yeah can't we come to see the best baji in the world?

At these phrases KC's eyes narrow at her two younger sisters.

KC: What have you guys done?

Naina puts on the most innocent face in the world.

Naina: what makes you think we have done something?

KC: I know you two very well... so spill it

Jouty: well we did nothing bad.

Naina: stop stalling just tell her.

Jouty: we booked you a vacation package to New Zealand. Everything is already paid for... now all you have to do is get your butt on the plane. We actually joined you in this tour that is going on in New Zealand, it will be in a week. So you better start packing my dear baji.

KC: I guys I really can't go. I have work Marguerite needs me.

Naina: We already talked to her; she thinks you need a month vacation anyways. Don't you dare try to come up with any other excuse, because it won't work.

KC gives a sigh of defeat.

Naina & Jouty: so you'll be going.

Naina: I'll be right back.

Naina goes into the house and into the bathroom where she takes out her phone and dials a long distance number.

Naina: hey Roshni, whats up?

Roshni: hey babes, nothing just trying to convince the idiot that he needs to go.

Naina: well good luck, you better get him to agree.

Roshni: so I take it your friend said yes?

Naina: derr how can she say no to me and Jouty.

Roshni: True that, he'll definitely be on the plane even if I have to kidnap him and carry him onto the plane myself.

Naina: well good luck I think I hear baji coming. Byes [Naina hangs up the phone]

[KC knocks on the door.]

KC: who are you talking to?

Naina: No one.
KC looks at the door a bit weirdly but walks away after a minute or two.

In South Korea a similar situation takes place with Yunho finally agreeing to Roshni's pestering about a month vacation.

Two weeks later on a plane the planned meeting of these two take place, a very unusual and a very unforgettable meeting.

After eating the lunch that was given to them on the plane, KC starts feeling a bit nauseous and before she can get up she throws up on the person sitting next to her. Yep you guessed it right; the person who was sitting next to her was none other than Jung Yunho.

KC: ummm hehe I am sorry, I'll clean that give it to me [she waits for him to say anything.]

Yunho is shocked and unmoving throughout all of this. When he snaps out of it...

Yunho: what have you done? This was my favorite shirt. [He takes it off and gives it to KC] you can keep it.

Unknowingly, this shirt will lead the two victims of the planning of three friends to a beautiful one month between. However some things are not meant to be forever. These two decided to meet under the cherry blossom tree in New Zealand where they first shared their kiss every year in December under the snow.

Every year no matter what happened this meeting would take place between these two lovers; oceans across from each other. After five consecutive years of meeting under that cherry blossom tree, Yunho did not keep his promise of coming. Every year after that KC keeps going even though somewhere deep in her heart she knows he won't come. But she remembers his last parting words.

During their last meeting as snow fell down around them...

Yunho took her face in his hand.

Yunho: no matter what happens, you must live your life to the fullest. [He kisses her very softly on the forehead, then each cheek, then her nose, her eyelids, then her chin and finally her lips]

Memory fades away and KC  is jerked back into reality.

After ten years of their first meeting and five years of their last meeting KC sits in her living room thinking that she will go once again this year and maybe he will come.

There is a knock on her front door. She opens it to see a stranger in a long black coat, blue jeans, a black kurta and long black boots up to her knees.

The girl extends her hand.

Girl: Hi, I am Roshni, You must be KC.

KC: yes I am KC but do I know you?

Roshni: No, but I know you very well, may I come in and speak with you. I have some news for you.

A five year old boy comes running to the door, his hair a mess of brownish black hair, his nose and mouth is an exact copy of his mothers but those eyes. As soon as Roshni takes a look in those eyes time she feels as if she is looking at her dear friend once again.

KC invites Roshni in and they both sit in the living room.

KC: would you like something to drink? It's freezing outside.. tea perhaps.

Roshni: that would be wonderful.

After KC makes tea and Roshni plays with her son.

KC: How do you know me?

Roshni: I am a friend of Yunho.

KC: do you know where he is? Why hasn't he contacted me in all these years? Is he okay? How is he doing? I have so many things to tell him. [Tears start to come to KC's eyes] I still have to tell him he has a son. I can't wait to see his face fill with happiness when he finds out.

As she says this, tears start to come to Roshni's eyes.

Roshni gets up and walks over to KC and hugs her.

Roshni: I am sorry, so sorry but there was a plane crash five years ago and he was on it. I am sorry he didn't make it.

As soon as FKC hears this all the memories of her vacation with Yunho come to life in front of her.
KC: No you're lying.. As she says this in denial she keeps on crying as if she believes Roshni in her heart.

A meeting planned out by three people who became friends through the internet for their dear friends in the season of winter, The coldest season and month brought warmth into the lives of two people, gave them memory, a gift to tell the world that these two have shared something.

  3. This is probably one of the first sad stories I have ever written. I remember baji wanting a sad story and I asked her to write one for me. This started our oneshot tradition (which is on hold. Thank you.
