Author's note: A-Z is a set of drabbles. I decided to post four or five at a time. I hope you like it Naina jaan.
Anxious
Anxious
This was the first time Junsu ever had asked Naina on an
official date. He had done everything right for Naina yet he couldn’t stop
feeling anxious. He had gotten flowers and chocolates. He had picked a movie
she had shown interest in months ago. He made dinner reservations at the
restaurant that served the best sushi. He planned to park his car far enough
where they could burn some calories after eating but was in comfortable
distance where she wouldn’t have to walk too much. He carefully chose his
outfit that for the night. His friends had laughed at him, telling him to relax.
He didn’t think it was possible but the second he saw her open the door all his
anxiety died down. Turns out he didn’t really need to plan so much. He threw
the previous plans out the window and they planned new things as the night
progressed.
Boxers
It was before Valentine’s day when Naina’s eyes fell on the
red metallic boxers. So many thoughts
went through her head when she saw it. She should get it. She pictured him in
the boxers and immediately burst into laughter as other shoppers around her gave
her looks. Then she remembered how it
has not been that long since they officially started dating, chances of her
seeing in those boxers, and only in those boxers were slim. She was about to
leave the store when she turned around and grabbed it. Even if not this
Valentine’s she promised herself someday she will get around to seeing him in
those. Better yet she will make him dance in those.
She did see him in those. It started the next Valentine’s
day and continued every year after that. The only thing was Junsu could barely
dance in them. Naina was too busy taking them off to actually enjoy his little
show in just his boxers.
Childhood
Junsu knew he should have given his mom a stricter warning.
He watched helplessly as his two favorite women talked in the kitchen. Every time his mom finished talking Naina
would throw her head back and laugh. Sometimes her laughter wouldn’t cease till
she could laugh no more.
Junsu wondered how she will look at him the same way again.
She knows it all now. She knows how he peed in his bed till age 9 and used to
bury his underwear in the yard so no one would find out. She probably shared
the story where his two female cousins made fun of him at age 12 and called him
a girl since his extra fat, correction, baby fat made it seem like he had
boobs. All the horrific stories where Junsu wanted to have like Michael
Jackson. He shouldn’t have trusted products bought from the supermarket. By the
end of the treatment his hair made him look like a poodle. He had to shave it
all off. Junsu dreaded and hoped that his mom didn’t tell her that his first
major role in a play was the role of Betty Rizzo in Grease. Junsu groaned and
covered his face.
That night both of them stayed up the whole night. Because
Naina had such a good laugh at his expense she thought it would only be fair to
return the favor. One by one she told him all her embarrassing moments. If he
laughed too hard after hearing her story Naina would frown, or roll her eyes.
Unlike Junsu, Naina was not scared about sharing her past. Before this moment
Naina hadn’t know that she trusted him to this extent. She did not hesitate
twice before telling him how the only reason she even had friends in middle
school was because she did their homework.
As Naina bared all her secrets, Junsu realized something
very important that night. He realized he could never find another woman who
was as funny, as beautiful and as strong as her. There might be women who were
more beautiful, or women who were stronger but none of them came in a package like
her. Junsu decided it was time to dig up
his old photo albums and share them with her, even the Betty Rizzo one that had
given him nightmares.
Drizzle
Unlike most girls Naina did not mind rain. She would get
sick now and then if she soaked for a long period of time, but still she was
okay with getting a little wet. Junsu hated the rain. He considered rain to be
to be one of the two world’s beautiful but deadly things. The other was of
course his girlfriend. He always got sick from getting wet in the
rain. Throughout his life it had always rained during the most important soccer
matches of his life. When he played it rained, when he watched it also rained.
The last World Cup he could barely enjoy the games because the rain ruined his
satellite connection.
“Let’s wait for it to be over.” Junsu said pulling her under
the shade.
Naina laughed. “Scared of a little drizzle?” Naina asked.
“I don’t think this is called drizzling. I am pretty sure
there is a storm coming.”
He was trying to scare her at the moment, but turned out it
was true. An unexpected storm did come. For two days Naina and Junsu stayed
cooped up in his bed. He was disappointed when the rain had completely stopped
on the third day. Every time she made an attempt to get up from the bed he
would pull her back in. Naina would protest but then give in.
“Let’s just pretend it’s drizzling outside and stay here.”
Junsu said as he wrapped his arms around her from the back.
Naina laughed and shifted to a more comfortable position.
“Does this mean someone likes the rain now?”
Everyday
The question was not even directed at him. During a family
dinner his brother jokingly asked why do guys want to get married anyways.
Junsu immediately thought of Naina. He wanted to be with her every single day. He
wanted her to be the first person he saw in the morning and last person at
night. Throughout dinner he kept wondering if he should just ask her to marry
him. They have been dating for over six
months, what if that isn’t long enough. Or what if she said no, he wondered.
Junsu decided he would hold off on this marriage business
just a little longer, not because he wasn’t sure but because he did not want to
push it on her too soon and scare her away.
Forever
Naina was shopping with her mom and grandmother. They were discussing her love life again. She
was amused how they were talking to each other about her relationship instead
of directly talking to her.
Naina’s grandmother turned to face her mom. “How many months
has it been since she started seeing the nice boy?”
Her mom wondered for a while before answering. “Six months I
think?”
“Seven” Naina corrected.
Her grandmother looked impressed. “Maybe I should invite him
for dinner.” Her grandmother thought out loud as she looked though the rack of
clothes. “How long are you planning to see him for?” She asked Naina.
Naina grinned. “Forever.”
This is a wonderful idea. Omg I just love it.. Each word goes along with a drabble which connects to the next one. It also shows the gradual growth of Naina and Junsu's relationship.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good idea. I can't believe I never thought of this! I loved the Boxers drabble for obvious reasons! ;) The Drizzle Drabble makes so much sense to me!.. Thanks Jouty Jaan!
I like the concept of this... the story flows sooo nicely and the words describe the situation so well.... Its amazing :) xxx
ReplyDeleteThis was so sweet and aww-wrenching. I love how you managed to show the progress of their relationship as time went on with each of the letters. I would like to see some of it before they started going out.
ReplyDeleteJouty Jaan, the drabbles are Naina-perfect!
Can't wait to see what you come up with for the other letters!
