Author's Note: I had a blast writing it, so I hope you guys like it. My comp crashed, so thank you Sara jaan for positing it and editing it. You have got to be the best editor in the world. This is a prequel to I Quite Love You. So it's like going back in time and looking at how the characters were back then
"He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking." - Leo Tolstoy
KC played around with her soup "I must be really bad at this you know."
"Can you stop playing around and just eat? My soup is getting offended." Roshni frowned.
KC sighed. She looked at Roshni and softly smiled. She appreciated all the things Roshni was doing for her. Sometimes it scared her. What if she wasn't good enough for all these and what if someday Roshni realized it and left her just like all the other people in her life.
It was as if Roshni could read her mind because she gently patted her hand, "don't worry, I am not a man and I am not going to leave you till you are happily settled with at least 4 kids."
Before KC could respond Roshni got up from the bed, "get some sleep, it will make you feel better."
KC nodded and watched Roshni leave the room. She doubt sleep would make her feel better. She got up from the bed, with her blanket, and headed to the balcony with a book. She wrapped the blanket around herself tightly, and started reading. This was a monthly routine. The first time a relationship disappointed her she would toss and turn on her bed all night. She would even cry sometimes if she really liked the guy, now she didn't bother going to bed. She would just stay up all night and try to read. She would think about what to say to her mom the next morning when she asks about her relationship status.
"Can you even read in that light?" A male voice asked.
KC turned her head. It was a guy on the other balcony.
"Isn't it too dark?" He asked again.
KC couldn't really see his face properly, but it looked like he was smiling. She knew it was not her neighbor.
"I am okay." KC replied plainly. She saw another guy enter the balcony with some sort of dish in hand. He turned on the light and he finally saw their faces.
The guy she was talking to turned to look at Wooyoung, her really not so friendly neighbor. He smirked at him and then turned to look at her. KC noticed Wooyoung didn't say anything. He simply placed the large dish on the table and sat down.
"I am Nichkhun." He extended his hand from the other balcony.
KC was too tired to move, but she felt it would be too rude to simply sit there, especially when the guy was being so nice. She slowly got up from her seat still holding the blanket around, she shook his hand. Maybe it was her imagination, but she could swear Wooyoung rolled his eyes.
"Do you want to join us for dinner?" Nichkhun asked.
"No, thanks" Whatever Wooyoung was eating did look good, and smelled good. But she would rather starve then share food with such a rude guy, that too from the same dish.
“Oh come on, you must not know Wooyoung is an excellent cook." Nichkhun smiled. He turned to look at Wooyoung who was eating all by himself. "Wooyoung ask her to join us." Nichkhun demanded.
“Yes please do join us; Khun might not eat if you say no." or that's what KC deciphered came out of Wooyoung’s mouth through all the chewing.
Khun laughed at his dry request. “Don’t pay attention to him. He is an ass."
KC wanted to blurt out she knows. “Look Khun, I can't eat with you guys."
Nichkhun pretended to frown. “Of course you can, here hold on. I am going to grab two other spoons, you better be in this balcony when I return, or from now on I will be having dinner at your place every night."
KC couldn't help but smile at such a silly threat. She watched him go back in to the house. She saw Wooyoung looking at her. Why did that annoying guy make her feel so nervous? It always felt like he saw through her.
“He is not your type." Wooyoung said sternly.
“I don't have a type, just so you know." KC replied. He was right though. Nichkhun seemed nice but didn't seem like her type.
"You have a type."
It wasn't a topic up for debate. He made it sound like a fact. It irritated her. KC really disliked the guy. How could someone with such a nice face be so irritating?
"Come here!"
KC's lips parted in shock. “Excuse me?"
“You can't eat from there, you have to come here." Wooyoung rolled his eyes at her explaining the obvious.
“I don't want to eat with you." KC replied with as much irritation as she could muster up.
"As if I am dying to eat with you either, but you look weak, I am afraid if you go 2 more minutes without food you will collapse on the floor, you may hit the railing and hurt yourself. Then the police would be here and I would have to answer to all those stupid questions." Wooyoung tried to sound as uncaring as he could.
"I would rather collapse on the floor from weakness than collapse after eating your food." KC’s voice was a whisper by the end as she watched Wooyoung climbing to her side.
His voice was a rasping whisper. “You haven't even eaten my food. How could you know?"
KC opened her mouth to answer but found nothing to say. “Someone as mean as you can never...." She finished in a squeak! He had lifted her in his arms and placed her on his side of the balcony.
Wooyoung climbed back “You are annoying, I hope you know that." He sat down on his chair again.
KC clenched her fist. Her breathing was still heavy from the squeak. "Put me back!"
"No."
"Put me back!" KC asked again
"No, and if you want to go back you can climb yourself."
KC turned her head to look at the balcony. The gap was at least bigger than a foot. She was scared of height. She didn't even have her keys. If she got out through the main door she would have to wake Roshni up for the door. Then she would have to explain everything. KC sighed deeply and sat down on the chair.
She could see him smile from the corner of his eyes. “You really must have wanted to eat here since if you really wanted to leave you could have gone out the front door.” Wooyoung smirked. What a night and she just knew it was just going to get longer and tiring. First a jerk breaks up with her then another jerk kidnaps her. She wondered if she could file a report on him.
"You are here." Nichkhun grabbed the seat between KC and Wooyoung. He handed a spoon to KC and placed the other one on the plate.
"It took you this long to grab two spoons?" KC asked skeptically.
"Sorry I had a call." Khun apologized but he didn't look too apologetic.
KC nodded. She took a spoonful of the rice, almost scared to taste it. To her surprise it was good…good might be too small of a word because it tasted heavenly. For a second she wanted to forget about the jerk that cooked and sighed.
He must've noticed because she could almost see him grin.
Jerk. "So, how come I never saw you before?" She asked Khun.
"Who me? I just moved two days ago." Khun replied as he continued to eat. "Wait what is your name? I forgot to ask?"
"KC." She replied smiling. She couldn’t help it.
"Do you always read in the dark KC?" Khun asked flashing one of his cute smiles.
"No, just...when I have a bad day." KC replied quietly.
"uh. Want to share?" Khun asked invitingly. There was something about him that made her want to open up to him. She looked at Wooyoung. Why did he look at her like that!! It annoyed her when he didn't look at her, and it bothered her when he did look at her. “Maybe some other day. I am really tired tonight." She replied and smiled as politely as she could.
Thankfully, Khun nodded letting the subject drop.
It was one of the best nights KC ever had in life. She didn't quite know why. It wasn't that she talked a lot. She simply sat there and watched Khun and Wooyoung poke fun at each other. She found out lots of new things. Supposedly Wooyoung was only bad till someone got to know him, yeah okay, and Khun was a big playboy. While Wooyoung had the biggest record for turning down girls, Khun has the biggest record for dating girls. They were opposites. Weird, it was sort of like her and Rosh. KC must have set a new record for going on bad dates and Rosh for not going on any dates.
Roshni got scared when she came into KC's bedroom in the morning. She wasn't in her room or the bathroom. When she came to the balcony she found her at her neighbor's balcony. Did she sleepwalk or sleep climb? Roshni climbed over to the other balcony.
"KC wake up!" Roshni touched her gently. "Wake up!!!"
KC opened her eyes and saw Roshni standing in front of her with a confused expression her face.
She looked around and understood her confusion. She was sleeping on a chair, covered in who knows whose blanket, definitely not hers because it was a really ugly puke green color. And the two guys were knocked out in the other chairs they were sitting in last night.
"Do you want to explain?" Roshni asked.
KC wanted to shake her head no. She noticed the two guys had woken up too.
Wooyoung slowly stood up and stretched. "We kidnapped her last night."
Roshni turned to look at him. "You did what?"
"Kidnapped her." Khun answered. Roshni turned to look at him and he grinned. "Actually I apologize. Your friend looked really upset last night, so I kidnapped her."
Roshni looked at the stranger. Was it possible to be this good looking? She should be mad at him for kidnapping KC, but he did say it was because she was upset. She turned to look at KC. "Are you feeling better?"
KC nodded.
"Then it's okay." She didn't directly look at Khun. She couldn't. No one can be this good looking "Next time you kidnap her let me know, that way I won't get a panic attack."
"Sure. But I sort of need your number for that. Unless you want to me climb your balcony at night and then tell you." Khun grinned.
Roshni could feel her cheeks getting warm. Was he flirting with her? She smiled and shook her head. "Let’s go. I need to go down for coffee." Roshni told KC.
"We will join you." Khun said with a smile.
Roshni tried to hold her laugh. "Where did you find such a stalker?" She asked KC.
Khun laughed. He wanted to ask KC where she found such a gorgeous roommate. That might've been too much because at almost anything he could feel the girl blush.
"I can't climb." KC reminded her.
Both Khun and Roshni looked at her with surprise. “How did you get here last night?” Khun asked.
KC immediately looked at Wooyoung who simply sat there looking at her. It almost felt like he was challenging her to tell them, and he knew she wouldn't.
"I ...it was dark so I wasn't too scared, but let's use the door now." KC said grabbing Roshni's hand. "Let's go."
As KC was pulling Rosh away Khun grabbed her hand.
"Do I call next time or do I pay you little visit?" Khun asked wiggling his eyebrows.
Roshni didn't try to hide her shock, "huh?"
"Next time we kidnap KC, do I call you and come by to tell you?" He repeated.
Roshni laughed. "Wooyoung can call me." Roshni smirked.
Khun tried to mask the slight pang of jealousy. "I will take that as a hint, Wooyoung will give me your number." Khun let go of her hand and watched her leave.
"I am not giving you her number" Wooyoung plainly said. The last thing he wanted to see was a romance between the two houses.
In the café, Khun finally got to know about KC's curse. It definitely was a curse because there wasn't any other word to describe it.
"What happened to the first one?" Khun asked, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Turned out gay." KC said with a smile.
Khun laughed. "Second one?"
"Became a priest." KC replied
Khun almost spat out his coffee. "You are kidding! Third one?"
"Was too shy" KC shook her head and crinkled her nose remembering the guy. It was actually one of the guys she left.
"4th one?" Khun grinned.
"Was a pervert." KC hated that guy, and ended things with him within three days.
"5th one?"
"Loved himself a little too much."
Khun burst out laughing. "6th one?"
KC remained silent for few seconds and softly replied, "left me for his family."
"Uh, this one meant something. Spill it sister!"
"His name was Yunho. He was perfect, after a month or so his parents decided some other girl would be perfect for his family."
"And you didn't say anything?" Khun asked
KC shook her head. "What could I say?"
You could've said a lot, Wooyoung thought to himself. If she had asked just once maybe he wouldn't have left her. Unlike Khun, Wooyoung had seen it all. He had heard her slam those doors; he had seen her cry in the elevator and then pretend something was in her eye in front of other people. Sometimes she didn't try too hard to pretend and just let it be. He figured she got tired of pretending after awhile. He had watched her sit on the balcony and stare at the same page of the book for hours. There was just one thing, he didn't care. He always found her too kind, too self righteous and too sacrificing. So it made sense when an asshole couldn't make her happy, or a punk took her for granted and walked all over her. He understood those guys; they were just being regular guys. A girl like her is better off being alone; heck they might as well put her in a fairy tale book. She will fit right in with Cinderella. While Cinderella had evil family members who took advantage of her, she has bad boyfriends who do the same. Wooyoung understood it must be annoying to be with such a good person. She definitely didn't deserve a guy. He felt sorry for any guy who ends up being in a relationship with her.
"You must have a record! Why do you do go out with these guys to begin with? You know it won't kill you to be alone." Khun said. He was amused by her track record, but he also felt bad.
"It's not like I find them. My parents…well my mom finds these guys for me. At first they are all okay, and I think this is it, and after few weeks I find out it's the same story all over again."
Wooyoung had enough of her pathetic story. He tried to eat his food and remain quiet but this girl was really getting on his nerve. "Then why do you do it?"
"What do you mean?" She was getting nervous again, she wondered. He was looking directly at her. She felt trapped under his gaze.
"All the guys are the same, one after another they all do the same things, then why do you do it?" Wooyoung asked plainly.
KC slightly shifted on her chair. " I already said it; my mom sort of pushes me toward them."
"Then stop getting pushed! Damn KC!" Wooyoung didn't realize it but his voice was getting louder with each word. Other people were starting to look. "You get pushed by the landlord, you get pushed by your mom, your coworkers, the men you date, and do you not see the pattern? The problem isn't them, it's YOU! I don't know which men want to date you, because I sure as hell don't want to be with someone who is so easy to control. If I was ever with you I would be too scared to break you, or hurt you. I understand why men leave you, I would never, and I really mean never..."
KC took her cold coffee and splashed it on his face. She felt herself shake a little in rage. She hoped no one else saw that. "You don't know me, don't pretend you do after one dinner. And as for dating me..." KC pretended laugh. "I would never, ever date you. So you don't need to worry about that."
KC quietly got up from the table and left the restaurant. She told herself she would not cry a single tear because of the things the jackass said. She went upstairs to her apartment and shut the door behind her. She sank to the floor and cried silently. Even if what he said was true, she didn't want to hear it from him. Anyone but him would have been okay. Was she really that bad? She wiped her tears and prayed to God that if there was a guy out there who would love her for who she is, he better send him soon. Then she will show this jerk!
Wow, I have seen this story being born, molded and this final creation is brilliant and a master piece.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I was reading it...I am sorry but my mind sorta paid attention to Khun and I fell in love with him just reading this. The way he was with KC, you could see his character and personality there.
This was already said but for the playboy thing...don't mind as long as when he is with me he is only with me and not being a playboy. =p
Okie, back to KC and Wooyoung...
Their relationship is really interesting and -roflll- at KC's track record. That track record listing at the cafe was hilarious. I am sorry, sad but hilarious. I love your writing style, I could picture this happening like a movie in my mind.
I love their bantering. Even though they seem to hate each other and be annoyed, they depend on the other just as much.
I can't wait to see KC getting stronger and standing up to all these people especially Wooyoung. He is harsh but he is the reality check that she needs. The impact that he makes with his words no one else ever will sadly even not Roshni.
I can't wait to read the other parts. You've got me waiting anxiously as to what is going to happen next.
=]
Also, forgot to mention before, You're welcome about the editing (that comment makes me feel really good -hehe) and no problem about the posting.
ReplyDeleteWow, again excellent.
ReplyDeleteI love the plot in this story, particularly the whole not finding "the one" angle. Wooyoung doesn't like that KC is a pushover type person, and he wants her to respect herself and not go through the crap she goes through.
Love the flirting in between Khun/Rosh
Does that mean a back story to Junsu/Naina?
hmmmmmm...
2nd part please
This looong comment made me feel so much better. Oh computer how can you betray me like this.
ReplyDeleteDon't go on anything I say just yet (regarding Khun) I am working on the characters as I go. I only have 1.5 characters figured out. Naina and Junsu.
Naina and Junsu part is the first one I wrote so they definitely have a story before Roshni entered there life. I just hope my comp didn't eat it :(((((
ReplyDeleteI just am really really speechless. Some of the characteristics are me. like tossing and turning then trying to read.
ReplyDeleteKhun is funny. His character in this story is hilarious and we all know he going to be falling hard and fast for a certain someone ;) but the fact that he befriends KC despite Wooyoung not liking her.
Rosh and Khun... since I have read some of the future I love it that I can see how they met. He makes her blush awww.... Its wonderful start to their relationship
KC and Wooyoung are a complex couple. I like that Wooyoung even though he doesnt know it is already in love with her. He just wants her to be worthy of herself first. His thoughts are complex and he is frustrated. His tone is harsh but his words are soft. He is speaking in doubles...
To be continued... Sleepy me :)
**slaps herself on the forehead** How long is this comment!
ReplyDeletePart 2
ReplyDeleteCan you please post the next chapter please.
