" Whoa" she looked around to see one of the worst messes of her life.
She saw a girl poked her head out of one of the doors. " You must be Roshni." The girl said without coming out. Roshni figured she wasn't dressed.
" Ye..Yeah" Roshni cleared her throat and tried to keep her voice composed.
" Give me a second" The girl closed her door for few seconds then came out dressed in all grey and black. " I am Naina as you already know. Your room is over there to the left. It comes with a bathroom as I said before. Don't use up all the hot water in the morning. I don't care what else you do in this house as long as it's not drugs" She finished what she had to say quickly and waited for Roshni to respond.
Roshni simply nodded, amazed that it was even possible to seem this preoccupied.
" Okay then it's all good. I am heading out for the night. Make yourself at home" Naina grabbed her coat and left. So much for getting to know each other.
Roshni wondered why the girl was wearing a coat and boots when it wasn't even cold outside. She looked around the living room. There were clothes everywhere on the two sofas. She wondered if the girl even owned a dresser or a closet. The coffee table had newspapers, stains, food crumbs and two pizza boxes on top. There were few empty coffee cups under the table, blankets, cds, videotapes, dvds, a ps3, an xbox 360 on the ground.
" What the heck did I get myself into?" Roshni whispered slowly. She fearfully walked into the kitchen. She felt disgusted by the sight and smell, dirty dishes in the sink, stains on the stove and counters.
She quickly walked to her room and prayed it was not like the rest of the house. To her surprise it was empty. She didn't care that the room didn't have a single furniture, for now she was simply glad she could see the ground before her.
She sat down on the floor, using her suitcase as a cushion and looked around the room, only seeing the blank walls. She tried to push away the sudden lonely feeling. After all she did come away so far to be alone, to go away from everything she knew. She took out her phone and dialed KC's cell number. When no one picked up she tried her house phone. That too went to voice mail. Roshni cleared her throat. " Hey! It's me. I am finally home. It's nice." Rosh tried to sound a little more excited. " My roommate seems cool, cool and... edgy. Umm That's about it for now. I guess you're not in. I am tired so I will head to bed now. Good night." Roshni put the phone back in her pocket and wondered what bed she was suppose to head to. There was no bed to sleep on.
Roshni didn't know how long but she sat on the floor, minutes turned to hours, hours to minutes? She had no idea. She only moved when her phone vibrated in her pocket.
" Hello" Roshni cleared her throat.
" Hi..It's me"
Roshni almost closed her eyes in disbelief hearing his voice.
" Why are you up? It's 2 am" Khun asked
" Why are you calling me? It's 2 am" Roshni replied.
Khun laughed. He stayed silent for a second then he asked " What's wrong?" he did not miss her he did not miss her he did not miss her Khun repeated in his head. Okay maybe be just a little bit
Roshni took a deep breath " well..this place is not what I had in mind."
" Don't tell me you are homesick already. Stay there we don't want you here. As a matter of fact KC and I were thinking it's time to give your room away." Khun tried to make the situation lighter by his usual jokes.
" Ha-ha funny." Roshni knew it was a joke, but they might as well give it away since she won't return for next 4 years.
"Okay, what's wrong?" Khun asked seriously, hoping it's nothing serious.
Rosh thought for a second. " It's nothing. The place is just a little cramped, and messy that's all."
" That's it? Is that even a reason to be upset? Just clean it up" Khun replied between laughs.
Roshni felt herself smile hearing his laugh, not feeling that lonely anymore. " Yeah..okay. You would say that. Have you ever cleaned a mess before? I don't think so! "
Roshni didn't know when she fell a sleep on the carpet, but when she woke up she found her phone underneath her face.
" What the.." Roshni held the phone to her ears " Hello?"
" Ah finally up. Good morning sunshine. It's about 11 am in the morning in case you are wondering, and as I read here it's 85 degrees outside and pretty sunny, so do make sure you put lots of sunscreen on" Khun trailed off
Roshni tried not to smile. " Okay you can stop now creep. You didn't stay up all night, did you?"
" What me?" Khun clicked his tongue. " Stay up all night and hear you snore. No way. I went to sleep and when I woke up I realized we never ended the call." Khun knew that was only half of the truth. He did try to stay up most of the night even knowing she was sleeping. He didn't want to end the call. He simply wanted to be there...that was the only way he could explain it.
Roshni wished he hadn't done such a wonderful thing. How is it possible that he was so wonderful to her but he didn't love her. " I don't snore, and if you thought I did it was probably in your dreams" Rosh answered smartly.
" Darling, I do not dream about women snoring. What an ugly idea for a dream. I always knew you have a sick sense of humor. In my dreams women are doing things which are far far from snoring" Khun replied mischievously.
Roshni made an attempt to fake a laugh. She didn't want to think about the women in his dreams. "I will talk to you later. Since I do not plan to enter this apartment's kitchen I need to go out for breakfast."
" Oh great, I can just imagine the extra pounds and inches you will gain." Khun paused then continued " Don't eat out too much, just clean the kitchen" This time he was serious.
Rosh simply sighed. Only thing worse than living in this mess would probably be cleaning this mess. Rosh rubbed her forehead. " What time is it?"
" Six thirty" Khun replied quickly knowing fully well what was coming next
" WHAAAAT!! Why didn't you tell me?" Rosh asked as she crawled toward her suitcase quickly to take out some clothes.
" You seemed so happy talking to me, I didn't want to ruin it"
" Yeah I was as happy as you would be when I kick your ass"
"Can't be late for the first day!" Rosh muttered under her breath as she ran to the door. Class was at eight, it was only seven but for all she knew it could take an hour to get to class. She opened the door and stopped herself from moving a step further. There was a white Calla lily on the dirty doormat in front of the door. She immediately frowned. She wondered which idiot left the flower at the door, couldn't he just knock? But then again it made her morning. She went back inside to place the flower in vase.
It wasn't too bad of a start for the day, she told herself maybe the day would be good. However she was wrong. She was awfully late to her first class. She roamed around for almost half an hour for her second class until a guy decided to help her. She also managed to find her roommate in her second class. Roshni realized she wasn't much of a conversationalist. All her replies were in one or two words, and for some reason she seemed a little mad at her. The next two days were pretty much the same. The only thing that made her feel better was the hour long conversation she had with Nichkhun every night, but even that made her feel miserable sometimes. It made her crave for more of him, and left her feeling lonely.
It was on the fourth day when Roshni decided to be early for once. She opened the door and there he was, half way bent in front of the door about to put the flower down on the mat.
" You!" Roshni knew him, he was the same guy who showed her around on the first day.
" Me." He answered with a slight smile.
" Are you leaving the flower here, or are you stealing it?"
" Stealing it" He grinned.
" Walk with me flower thief, or both of us are going to be late!" Roshni locked the door. "Wait! Let me put the flower in a vase really quick."
He grabbed her hand to stop her from unlocking the door. " Is it necessary?"
" Is holding my arm so tightly necessary?" Roshni asked.
" Oh" He released her hand. " I am sorry."
She noticed he did look apologetic for something as small as grabbing her hand. "I can't leave the flower here to die." Roshni explained
He sighed in slight annoyance. " It's a surprise.." don't ruin it.
He might have as well added that part, because the look said it all. It all made sense now! There wasn't just a random flower at the door every morning, Khun wasn't playing a prank on her, it was him, and he left it for her, her roommate!!!
She couldn't focus in class. She tuned to look at him. How could he take notes so peacefully when all she could think about was his thing with her roommate. She didn't know what else to call it. " Do you do this everyday?" Roshni whispered loudly.
He didn't move his eyes from the professor, but he nodded.
" How long have you been doing this?" Roshni asked, this time a little louder than before.
" Long enough," he kept his answer short.
Roshni smiled to herself. First there was KC and now her roommate. All these romantic movies, and she is getting a front seat. She tried not to think about her own love life. thing's haven't been quite right ever since a certain Prince Charming jumped out of a fairy tale into her life. It's not that it was wrong, it was wonderful, but wonderful in a very painful way. She turned her head to look at him again.
" So tell me about her." She tried to smile.
His brows came together in a frown. " Isn't she your roommate? Shouldn't you be telling me about her?". He asked the obvious in a low voice.
" I just moved in, we have only exchanged four to five words so far." Roshni whispered.
" Then I suggest you exchange some more." He whispered louder.
Roshni ignored his smart comment. It's not like she had anything better to do these days other than attending classes and collecting flowers, which weren't even hers so she would have to stop collecting. " So does she know?"
He didn't say anything. he simply gave her a look, the look said something like what do you think? At least she assumed that's what the look meant.
" Do you want me to tell her? What am I suppose to tell her? I don't even know your name!" Roshni ignored the hushes and shushes she was getting from some of her classmates. It was so unlike her to talk this much in a class with a guy she barely knew.
" If I tell you my name, would you please stop talking?" He pleaded.
Roshni nodded.
" Junsu! Now please don't say a word till we get out of this class."
" Fine." Roshni straightened her back and tried to focus on the professor. Maybe she won't be too miserable in this new place.
Khun came home to find Wooyoung and KC having dinner, well at least they were pretending to have dinner. For a couple that constantly bickered they were awfully too romantic.Even now they were more focused on each other than food.
KC tore her eyes away from Wooyoung. " Oh, you are home."
" Yeah." Khun replied as he headed to his room. He hated to admit it but for the first time in life he felt like a third wheel. When Rosh was here it was different. If KC and Wooyoung were too romantic, Rosh and Khun rolled their eyes together. If KC and Wooyoung wanted to have a private dinner alone, Rosh and Khun would stay up till one or two then eat together. The same went for everything. It was Rosh and him, Rosh and him, Rosh and him, now it was just him.
He took a deep breath and speed dialed her number. She didn't pick up. He tried again. She didn't pick up the second time either. She was still new in town so there weren't many things to keep her busy at this hour. He headed back to the dining room.
" KC..do you know why Rosh is not picking up?" Khun tried to sound as casual as possible.
" yeah she is out with some friend." KC explained.
" Oh.." Khun nodded. He tried not to feel disappointed. It was a good thing that she was with a friend.
Wooyoung turned his head to look at Khun. " Yes....!! She is out having dinner with some friend name Junsu...You should let KC tell you more about him, because I swear she talked about him for hours." Wooyoung grinned like the devil. Because the look on Khun's face at that moment said it.
It was perfect after my long day. =] Even thought it was a bit bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to hit Khun and Rosh's heads together and go KC & wooyoung for makng him jealous.
Naina and Junsu can''t wait to read about that.
You've got me really really curious.
