The sound of applause overcomes the dead silence that had settled after Naina finished reading her poem.

Teacher: Naina that was beautiful. What poetry!

Naina smiles and all the boys are hit with her beauty.

Naina: just like this

Boy 1: Naina that was excellent my jaan (my life)!

Naina: Shut up Rohan! Who do you think you are?

Rohan: What should I do you are the thing of my life.

Naina with fire raging in her eyes: you called me a thing?

Boy 2: Naina... please don’t get mad, he is an idiot. Say that poem for me once again.

Roshni: Quiet! Haven’t you found the place to flirt! Sheesh!

Teacher: Now be quiet and let me speak.

Everyone: Sorry ma'am.

Teacher: okay, well Naina, you’re going to pass this subject with top marks. As for all of you, you Guys need to improve. Time passes by so fast. Okay Guys break time now oh and the thing is I took two weeks off that’s why you Guys will have a substitute teacher for your English lessons.

Everyone moans.

Naina: but ma'am that is not fair you’re the best teacher.

Teacher: Sorry Guys. Naina you are in university and want to be a teacher like me right, so you have to bear with things like this.

Soon the room is empty and Naina walks out of the room and opens her bag to look for her planner whilst walking .She bumps into someone that was carrying a folder, the sheets from it all fell out while the stuff from Naina’s bag falls out. .

Naina: uff! God my day is cursed.

Naina starts picking her things up off the floor as well as the man in front of her starts picking his things up. As soon as they picked everything up Naina looks at the Guy, the Guy just stares at her.

Naina snaps her finger in front of him.

Naina: umm hello.

Guy: ooh I’m sorry.

Naina: I suppose it is okay it was my fault too.

Roshni walks up to both of them.

Roshni: Naina you’re still here outside English. Let’s go.

Naina and Roshni leave.

The Guy was left mesmerized.

He walks into the English class and surprisingly he was the substitute teacher. He sat down on the previous teacher’s desk and went through his folder. He came across a sort of booklet... It said Naina's Poems.

Guy: It must be that girl’s that I bumped into.

He goes outside the English room and sees no one there. He goes back to the desk and starts reading the book. He smiled reading it....and fell in love with the words.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
LOVE

The goodness of love killed someone,
The deepness of love killed someone,
Who ever loved couldn't survive,
Whoever survived was killed by loneliness.

Tears form in eyes before crying.
Every dream breaks before sleep.
Love is a sin that is understandable.
If only someone stopped before this sin happened.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Soon he was lost in the booklet, but what attracted him the most was how much feeling the writer put into this book. He thought the writer doesn’t believe in love, feels alone, has a lot of passion but doesn't show it and is a different person from outside.

On the other hand Naina was having lunch with Roshni and a few others when she was searching for something in her bag.

Roshni: What are you looking for?

Naina: My poem book.

Roshni [laughing]: It’s better if it’s lost. You don’t show it to anyone, so what’s the use of writing?

Naina hits Roshni lightly.

Naina: Roshni you know that book is my life, it has my best works in it.

Roshni: Best work is for showing people not hiding.

Naina: Yeah, but I have written my most private thoughts in this book. I can’t show it to anyone.

Roshni: o ho! Tell me your heart’s desire... who is he?

Naina: Roshni for the last time I don love anyone. Love is not real. I’ll only believe in love when I fall in love.

Roshni: oh…so you are waiting for someone?

Naina: Isn’t everyone? [Laughs] Maybe! I'm sure everyone searches for their Mr. Right. Sometimes you don't know when Mr. Right hits you, but slowly you realize

Naina started singing ho gyaa hai tujhko to pyaar sajna and everyone joins in.

Click here to listen to the song.

The Guy that had previously bumped into Naina came into the canteen. He saw everyone singing and in the middle that girl he was mesmerized.

He went closer and joined the crowd. Naina, Roshni and Rohan were on top of the table dancing when Rohan accidentally pushed Naina who lost her balance.

Luckily someone caught her. She kept her eyes closed while the Guy was holding her. He looked at her and was mesmerized by her angelic face.

Rohan: oh sorry Naina. Sorry, come on babes.

The Guy came back to his senses and put Naina down as she opened her eyes and turned to Rohan.

Naina: You idiot if he wasn’t there I would be injured and then I would have killed you!!! And babes… what the f***!

Guy: Excuse me miss mind your language!

Naina turns and is shocked.

Naina: umm okay. Thanks for saving me but that doesn’t mean you can tell me to mind my language.

The Guy laughed a little startling Naina a little by his facial features. She stared in his eyes for a while. He snapped his fingers as she did in their first meeting.

Guy: You'll find out soon who I am...oh and here you dropped this. You are an amazing writer must say. The poems were brilliant. Naina snatched the book

It was her book. How dare he read it? Who the hell does he think he is? I know they're brilliant! Why did he read them? They’re mine; they’re private poems, which I don't want to share. Why???

Guy: ok everyone, lesson time off you go.

Roshni: hmm. You read Naina’s book?

Guy: Yes. Why?

Roshni: oh umm. Err nothing. [She turns to Naina.] Naina it doesn't matter don't get upset!

Naina: I aint! (She said in anger)

Guy: oh, I wasn’t supposed to read it?

Naina: its okay, it doesn’t matter.

With that everyone goes back to their lessons.

Someone reading Naina’s book upset her quite a bit. She was confident from the outside but never from the inside. She never trusted what the teachers and everyone said about her work. She never believed that her work was the best but for some reason for the first time she agreed her work was good. Brilliant as he said. That is what she thought but it slipped away as the day was over.

Naina got up early next morning and did the usual stuff and went out on her way to university.

As she had an hour left or so until her class started she went to the place where she and her previous boyfriend used to spend their days. She went there and sat down on the bench she got her poem book out and started writing.

She looked around for inspiration. She saw a bunch of flowers that were in front of her they were half dead. She turned and saw another bunch of flowers. This bunch of flowers was in a vase as lush as possible and looked as if their cared well...

She started writing...
-----------------------------------------
Lovely

Lovely flower
Filled with so many colours
In these flowers is a lot of love.
They are living these lovely flowers
Here are black flowers
Dying on the path
In these flowers there is no love
Dying are these black flowers.
---------------------------------------
Naina felt really sad and depressed and chanted "Dying are these black flowers."

Some one behind Naina put their hand on her shoulder

Guy: excuse me

Naina looked up and saw that it was the Guy from yesterday; the one that read her poems.

Naina: YOU!

Guy smiles at her as she looks angry.

Guy: that line was really nice. Dying are these black flowers.

Naina: What? What are you doing here?

Guy: The usual since I’ve come here this place seems really nice to me. I come jogging in this area every morning.
Naina: oh err…class starts in [she looks at her watch] oh 15 minutes.

She gets up in a rush.

Naina: Oh God...Now I’m going to be late!

Guy: okay...bye! [He starts to jog off.]

Naina: Aren’t you coming to university?

Guy: Yes but my shift starts at 10 a.m. [With that he takes off.]

Naina: Shift? What a creep…must be a new student!

Naina goes to psychology class first then into English.

Every one sits in their usual places and waits for the teacher. Soon they all get bored and start throwing paper around, when suddenly the door opens. It’s that guy again.

Rohan: oh it’s that guy, phew at least it’s not that stupid substitute teacher.

Soon everyone starts throwing paper except Naina who's concentrating on her English essay.

The guy comes in and sits at the back seat behind Naina and watches everyone’s atrocious behaviour. Then his eyes come to rest on Naina for awhile but gets irritated as the only thing he can see is her back.

As Roshni and everyone are up running around throwing paper, the guy sits on Roshni's seat.

Guy: Naina what are you doing?

Naina looks up and is surprised to see that same guy again.

Naina: You? Umm I’m just working on English essay. What are you doing here?

Guy: A question. Why aren’t you being mischievous like everyone else?

Naina: I’ve got better things to do! Anyhow they’re going to get into to trouble one way or another. I can use less of that in my life.

Guy: By the way I’m Junsu.

He sticks his hand out for her to shake

At that time the bell sounded and Junsu quickly got up and ran to the door blocking everyone from getting out!

Rohan: What the hell do you think you’re doing!

Other boy: who the f*** do you think you are!

Junsu [shouting]: I WILL NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF LANGUAGE IN MY CLASS. EVERYONE BACK TO YOUR SEATS AND AS YOU ALL HAVE A FREE PERIOD NEXT AND YOU WILL SPEND IT IN HERE DOING ENGLISH.

Everyone does as told wondering who the maniac is?

Junsu stands in front of the desk.

Well as Mrs. Sharma is off, I am the substitute teacher.

The whole room goes quiet shocked.

Naina was shocked too as Junsu looked so young.

Junsu: what’s there to be so stunned about? My name is MR. JUNSU...call me JUNSU and Naina you can go as you did what was expected.

Naina: Sir I would like to finish my essay here if you don't mind!

Junsu: Sir? Why didn’t you call me sir before Naina?

Naina: because I didn’t know that you were a teacher!

Junsu: aren't teachers normal people?

Naina laughed at what Junsu was trying to point out.

Naina: They are but they are respected.

Junsu: Why ?

Naina: because they are our teachers who teach us about everything.

Junsu: So…

Naina: so teachers deserve a lot of respect, just like our parents.

Junsu: hmm…true...but still call me Junsu ...all of you call me Junsu ...if you call me sir or Mr. Junsu it makes me sound old!
Roshni: Aren’t you? [Laughs whilst high fiving a girl behind her.]

Naina hits Roshni lightly telling her to shut up.

Junsu smiles at Naina's doings.

Junsu: Guys I’m only like two - three years older than you. So you know not much space in between!

Naina: Fine Junsu! Can we get on with the lesson?

Roshni : Listen to the boss! yes! hahah !

Rohan : Roshni! No. She is my girl of the class.

Naina looked as if she was disgusted!

Naina: Shut up idiot!

Everyone started laughing at Rohan.

Junsu: Okay. Now Some one tell me what you've been doing so far!

Roshni: Well something on idioms, which are something.

Junsu: Right...can anyone be more specific?

Rohan : NO!

Everyone started laughing.

Junsu: come on some one!

He looked at Naina who looked disturbed.

Junsu: okay fine...Naina?

Naina [who wasn’t paying attention was mouthing.] Tears come to eyes before crying.

Junsu says the line out load, which gets Naina's attention and Junsu smiles.

Roshni: Junsu…your smile is cute!

Rohan: what a line sir. What was it…Tears come to eyes…uh.

Junsu: Tears come to eyes before crying.
He looks at Naina.

Junsu: right?

Naina smiles and nods at him.

Roshni : what a beautiful line.

Naina: I know, the writer is amazing herself!

Naina smiles and blushes a little!

Roshni: Sir tell us the whole poem.

Junsu looked at Naina straight away.

She was looking clueless.

Junsu: hmm...what if the writer doesn’t want me to?

Roshni: ...why would you write a poem that you wouldn't want to say?

Junsu: hmm true...why wouldn’t you?

This time he looked at Naina and Naina was looking at Roshni.

Junsu: why wouldn’t someone want to share her poem Naina?

Naina: Sir...umm...Junsu...may-maybe I will think that everyone will laugh at my poems...

Roshni: you ...what do you mean my poems?

Naina: I mean...

Junsu: but Naina, if you don't try and show your works then how will you know? [He goes back to talking to everyone.] Fine if I get a nod from all of you then I will recite the whole poem.

Roshni: cool...look everyone is nodding.

Junsu: except Naina...

Roshni : Naina what’s wrong with you today? Say yes.

Naina slowly starts nodding...

Junsu: okay here goes..

The goodness of love killed someone,
The deepness of love killed someone,
Who ever loved couldn't survive,
Whoever survived was killed by loneliness.

Naina without thinking started reciting along with Junsu...and everyone looked at her while Junsu was left smiling

Tears form in eyes before crying.
Every dream breaks before sleep.
Love is a sin that is understandable.
If only someone stopped before this sin happened.

At the end everyone started clapping and Naina realised what she did and covered her face with her book.

Junsu laughed at her cuteness.

Roshni: It’s a beautiful poem. The writer is awesome I must say.

Rohan: yeah. Who is the writer?

Junsu..: NAINA.

Roshni..: Naina? Naina what?

Naina: Junsu. I have to go!

She gets up...

Junsu: Naina, sit back down. I gave you the option but you chose to stay so you will do so!
Naina got quite angry and did as she was told.

Junsu: so Naina! Hmm answer a question. Why would someone write this kind of poem?

Naina: umm

Roshni: Say it. Why are you so quiet today usually you don’t shut up!

Naina didn’t actually know that she felt really shy for some reason and she hadn't been like that since she met her last boy friend.

Junsu made her think differently...he made her say stuff that she was worried to say. Why did she do as she was told?

Naina: Well maybe the person who wrote this was in love once and maybe the boyfriend cheated on her and broke her trust.

All of A sudden Naina started weeping and ran out of the class room. Without thinking Junsu followed. She ran all the way back to that special place and went near the bench and cried. Junsu came and turned her around and without thinking she hugged him tight and cried her heart out. Junsu was totally confused and didn’t know what to do. He then slowly hugged her.

Junsu: Naina what’s wrong...Naina?

Naina a few minutes later came to her senses and moved back staring right at Junsu’s eyes which were to die for. The eyes reminded her of her old love. After a while she ran all the way home.

Junsu was left absolutely surprised. What just happened? He thought. Why was she crying...then he thought about what Naina said about her trust being broken. He went back to the campus and looked for Roshni.

He knew Roshni was the only one that could answer his questions.
He found her and at first Roshni was stunned by his questions but then started answering them.

Roshni explained that Naina had a boyfriend who she truly loved 3years ago. She was with him over 8 months before he left. Every spare time they would spend in their own little place and then her boyfriend got severely ill, but he promised Naina he will be okay. One day Naina came back from holiday and saw him but with another girl. In his last moments he had told Roshni everything that he done all this so that when he is gone Naina isn’t left in much pain. Naina always thought that he cheated on her and left her. She couldn’t face the facts. Naina likes keeping her life hidden.

Junsu: That Guy must've really loved her.

Roshni: hmm come to think of it you look like him...your eyes.

Junsu: Really? That is probably why she was staring into my eyes.

Roshni: hmm I remember she used to say he had magical eyes that she could drown in forever.

Next morning Naina arrived at university ready and confident. She had a free period so she decided to spend it at the library.
She sat down and started to read a book. It was on "hate poems”. She lost herself into the book feeling each word.

Junsu: so that’s where you get your inspiration from.

Naina got startled a bit but then looked up and met with a pair of dreamy eyes as she got lost in them.

Junsu was happy that she was looking at him and just wanted to stare back but then realised why he was here he clicked his fingers in front of Nainas eyes.

Junsu: umm Naina about yesterday, I’m sorry I made you cry.

Naina: it wasn’t your fault [goes back to reading and a few minutes later the bellrang and Naina and Junsu got up.]

Junsu: Naina there’s a spider near your foot.

Naina screamed and jumped on Junsu. Junsu started laughing at her reaction with her in his arms.

Junsu: I was joking.

Naina: You idiot!

She looked at him and this time both drown in each other’s eyes. Naina’s grip on his shoulders tightened so did his and their heads came closer until their lips were 3 inches apart when Roshni came running in.

Roshni: Naina! ..Naina what are you doing come on were going be late for the chemistry exam!

Naina and Junsu come to their senses and he puts her down whilst Roshni is pulling her hand and she looked at him smiled. After an hour of exam everyone comes out of the hall.

Roshni: Come on Naina, today’s the football match lets go and see.

Rohan: Yeah babes come!

Roshni: You. Shut up!

Naina: Roshni, I don't feel like it. You go with Rohan. I will go to the park.

Roshni: As you wish. Come on Rohan.

With that they're off whilst Naina walks in the park and sit on her bench. What Naina didn’t know was that Junsu had followed her. He stood there unseen.

Naina thought about those beautiful eyes. She missed him so much and then her mind turned to Junsu. He was just like him. She thought of how she felt when she was in his arms.

Naina started singing without any care.

click here to listen to song (little bit in the middle from it)

Where ever I go
I’m never far
From you. From You.

Naina was startled when she heard someone clap. She shot up straight away and saw Junsu coming towards her.

Junsu: Wow Naina! you write poems well and sing songs well!

Naina stood there in surprise, her heart beating faster as Junsu came closer she would just go and hug him tight..or that’s how she felt.

Junsu came and sat down on the bench. Naina sat back down staring at the ground.

Junsu: Naina, can we be friends? I know I’m a little older than you but still?

Naina [surprised]: friends...oh umm yeah sure.

Junsu: okay so tell me.

Naina: what? Is there something to tell?

Junsu: yep...tell me what’s wrong?

Naina: Nothing.

Junsu [seriously]: Naina, tell me I want to help!

Naina: Help? I don't need help! I don't need anyone. Whoever I come close to leaves me. So i don't want anyone’s help. My life is incomplete! My love can only complete it! But no he's left me! So why would I want some one’s help huh?

Junsu: okay Naina calm down. Don't get upset! I was trying to be a friend, you know some who you share problems with someone who you trust.

Naina: Trust? I’ve trusted too many people in my life and they cheated on me! Trust there’s no such thing as trust.

Junsu: okay so you don't need any help and you don't trust! Naina, take it from me. You are excellent.

Naina: What? What are you saying?

Junsu: Well...you don't believe yourself you don't trust. You lack confidence in yourself.

Naina: hmm... Hey wait a minute are you insulting me?

Junsu: no I’m being serious. Naina, I get the impression that you think you are useless and you are not confident with your work.

Naina: I’m...

Junsu: Let me finish. Naina you are one heck of a fantastic writer. You are a brilliant singer as I have witnessed myself and you are brave.

Naina: But Junsu I’m...

Junsu turned Naina around grabbed her arms and made her face him as well as bring her close himself.

Junsu: Naina look into my eyes. Believe me...you are brilliant. You can do anything, you can trust people, and you can trust me!

At that moment Naina couldn’t stop herself and agree as well. She just drowned in his eyes whilst he was chanting 'you are brilliant'

The next thing Junsu knew was he was responding to a deep juicy kiss. His hands wrap around her waist bringing her much closer as the kiss gets lighter and Naina’s kiss turns into a passionate hug.

Naina: I’ve lost you once and now I’m never going to let you leave again.

Junsu is totally surprised but is over the moon.

Junsu: Naina...

Naina backs away and comes back to reality. She replays the whole scene in her head and gets up and turns, she's just about to go when Junsu grabs her arm.

Naina: I’m sorry Junsu I thought you were my love and I...

Junsu covers Naina's mouth with his hand and says 'shh.'

They have an eye lock whilst Junsu thinks this is the girl I truly care about. I know everything about her and I want to help her. I want to make her mine I love her!
Junsu: Naina you have thought right I am your love!

Naina: Junsu? you are my love?

Junsu: Naina I have fallen in love with you. I can't see you in pain, your thoughts that you put into your poems clearly shows what kind of person you are and I love you so much!

Naina: Junsu, since I’ve seen you, I felt strange but now I...

She hugs him tight.

Naina: I trust you. You have won my trust Junsu I...

Junsu: Naina, I promise I will never break your trust!

Naina: I know and I love you.

They hugged each other.

Roshni: what’s happening? Am I seeing things?

Rohan: Nothing...Nothing...Just some loving.

Naina backed away blushing and Junsu just stood there.

Roshni: It happened just the way I thought it would.

Naina: Roshni what are you talking about?

Roshni: The day you bumped into Junsu, I could see the sparks fly. Junsu is the first person to read your poem book containing all your heart’s desires. Everything has become okay in 70 minutes! Now Naina recite one more poem.

Naina sits on the bench beside Junsu both hand in hand as Rohan and Roshni sit on the grass looking up to them as they both recite their special poem!

70 minutes
70 minutes is what you have
Maybe your life’s most important 70 minutes
Today, whether you play good or bad
These 70 minutes you will remember your whole life
How to play, today I will not tell you
All I will say is go and these 70 minutes play to your heart’s desire.

Here are the poems in the Original language they were written in.

sattar minute = 70 Minutes
sattar minute hai tumhaare paas
shaayad tumhaari zindagi ke sabse khaas sattar minute
aaj tum acha khelo ya bura
yeh sattar minute tumhe zindagi bhar yaad rahenge
kaise khelna hai aaj main tumhe nahi bataonga
bas itna kahunga, ke jao aur yeh sattar minute ji bhar ke khello

ISHQ = LOVE

kisi ko ISHQ ki achai ne maar dala,
kisi ko ISHQ ki gehraai ne maar dala,
karke ISHQ koi na bach saka,
jo bach gaya usse tanhaai ne maar dala

aasoo aa jate hain ankhon me rone se pehle
haar khwaab toot jate hain sone se pehle.
ishq hai gunah ye to samajh gaye.
kaash koi rok leta ye gunah hone se pehle.

Pyaara sa = Lovely

pyaara sa phool
kitne rang hain inmeh
inhi phoolo meh bohod pyaar hain
bach the jaa rahain yeh pyaara sa phool
yahaan pe hain kaale phool
saar pe maar rahain hain
inhi phoolo meh koi pyaar naahin
marthe jaarahain yeh kaale phool

  1. Oh my gosh, I didn't know this was the story you were editing Roshni. I got confused for a second. First of all I want to thank Roshni for the editing. I can clearly read this all in English now, but thank you for keeping the original poems at the end. The English translations aren't as eloquent as the Urdu/Hindi, but it helped me understand it better.

First of all, I want to say to my Salma Jaan. If she ends up reading this or not is that I believe this is one of my favorite stories. My character in this story is so vulnerable, innocent but tries to portray herself as a strong person. In real life, I believe I'm a really strong person, but like everyone else I have a fragile heart.

Junsu as a teacher ::sigh:: whatever class he would teach, I would definitely register for. ;) This story inspired me to write a more suggestive story about Junsu being a teacher and I'm the student hehehehe ;P

The sincerity that is in this story definitely shows that our angel Salma Jaan wrote it. And made me realize how much I miss the angel of our sisterhood. Frankly the only sane person in the group. Thank You Salma, I will def. read this story whenever I'm in a sad mood, or a happy mood. Because this story always leaves me with a smile.

    Love Love Love <3

  3. Thank You Naina Jaan for the long comment. After reading this I can picture Junsu as a professor now. Salma Jaan this was a sweet simple brilliantly written story. I hope I did not take away the original meaning and essence of the story in the translation and editing.
