Chapter 5: Coming Closer

Micky and Jouty having been told that U-know had found KC headed over to the students lounge. They were busy talking about the performance on Friday.

“So do you guys planning on doing anything?” Micky asked curiously.

“The way things have started this week I don't know. I’m just worried about KC at the moment.” Jouty said worried.

“Don’t worry if I know U-know he'll have her mad at him in no time and she'll have forgotten all her sadness.” Micky tried to alleviate Jouty’s worries.

“I think one day those two will end up killing each other.” Jouty muttered.

“Or they may just end up together. They do say hatred is the first sign of love.” Micky tried to reason with her.

Jouty couldn’t help but agree with him in the bottom of her heart.

“So tell me about your stories, the ones you write. I read the first bit of Falling in love 3. The title suggests you have 1 and 2 as well.” Micky changed the subject.

At that time a student walked in the lounge and asked them if they were Jouty and Micky. They both confirmed only to find out that they had been chosen to play the lead roles in the end of semester play.

They both protested by saying they weren’t even in the club. However the student shocked them by saying that Miss. Kanya had suggested both of them and asked for you guys to be told that it will part of your end of the year art project.

Jouty and Micky made their way to the drama hall where Professor Ledger was waiting for them.

“Micky and Jouty: our hero and heroine. Now I can see why Kanya suggested that the two of you should play the hero and heroine. Right here are your scripts, rehearsals are starting tomorrow so please try and revise your lines for tomorrow.” Professor Ledger informed them.

Micky and Jouty looked at the scripts and then looked at Professor Ledger shocked.

“But the scene starts with me and him kissing. Ew” Jouty said outraged.

“What do you mean by ew? We have to do this or we will fail art.” Micky said softly.

“Right but kissing you...I can't even bear to think about it but I have an idea. I’ll close my eyes and think you are my Akaashdeep Saigal.” Jouty trailed off thinking about Akaashdeep.

“When you kiss me you'll definitely be only thinking of me and no one else.” Micky murmured.

“Did you say something?” Jouty asked distracted.

They left the drama hall and headed for Jouty’s room in the girl’s cabin. There Micky flung his bag on the floor and sat on one of the chairs.

“Let’s revise the lines. We’ll think about the kiss later.” Micky said taking charge.

They began revising their lines. Micky was sitting on the chair while Jouty was pacing up and down. They practiced for half an hour and Jouty got into her lines that she didn't realize that Micky had stopped talking. Micky watched Jouty with love in his eyes and before he knew it or could stop himself he pulled her onto his lap as she was walking by and kissed her.

As their lips met they both lost themselves in each other.

Wow. He is an amazing kisser. I could enjoy this.

I always knew that when I met the right person and we kissed it would be natural and I was right. Jouty is the right person.

Their mouths mated in the most intimate way possible lost in each other untill they heard a cough near the door. They jumped apart and looked towards the door to see Roshni standing there trying not to look at them.

She informed them of KC and U-know being on their way back. Micky took his bag and went to stand next to Roshni.

“Are you coming?” He asked Jouty.

“Of course I am. I have to see what your buddy has done to my best friend.” She replied.

Meanwhile in the park, "You have no idea how proud I am" Yunho said as he pulled her into a hug. KC's hands went around U-know's waist and she laid her head on his chest. "You don't know how good it feels hearing someone say they are proud of me.” She almost choked on her words.

U-know softly smiled. Her words tugged at his heart. “Well now you know there is someone proud of you."

KC looked up at U-Know. “I still can't believe that you are proud of me. I mean what could I've done to make you so proud?"

Yunho placed his hands on her shoulders, "You just being who you are makes me proud of you."

"But we are always fighting, surely that's not something to be proud of. I mean if I was doing a business degree rather than a teaching one then I'd say that's something to be proud of.” KC says depressed.

"How can you even think that? Becoming a teacher is a great thing. I would be proud of you because then you would be passing on the Jewels of Knowledge to someone else." Yunho told her gently.

KC put her hands around her waist in a defensive position. “If only my parents could think like you, but..." KC let sighed softly " all they can think about is how intelligent and good looking Kuldeep and Kiran are.”

U-know closed the space between KC and himself as he stepped closer to her. "You are one of the most intelligent and prettiest person I know. Come on you even surpass Hero in that category"

KC giggled. “In which section do I surpass Hero, the pretty section or intelligent?"

U-know laughed. “Both." He lightly pulled KC's nose.

"If Hero heard you say that he would kick your backside all the way to Korea and back" KC said happily.

"No doubt about that or he could agree" he flashed her a smile that could have melted ice into water in a second.

"I am sorry for the way I acted. I apologize for that. You know you do have a friend in me." U-Know explained.

KC grinned and thanked him softly. “If you knew how much that means to me you would probably faint"

U-know's eyes sparked with mischief. “No problem Koala bear, I have you to resuscitate me to life"

KC opened her mouth in shock. Since when did U-Know make her blush so much? Since she was at loss of words she turned back to sit on her swing.

U-Know decided to grab the swing next to her. For few minutes both of them slightly swung back and forth and enjoyed the comfortable silence.

"I never thought we could converse without fighting." KC smiled feeling content.

U-know shifted a bit closer to KC. "I am full of surprises sweetheart."

KC raised her eyebrows surprised. “Did you just call me sweetheart? I thought you reserved that for the girl you usually go out with. I mean they are plenty aren't they?"

U-know placed his hand over his heart, "so sad how little you think of me! I am hurt!" KC removed herself from U-knows arms and turned her back to him.

U-know got up to leave but turned back to her, “oh and by the way I've only called my koala bear sweetheart before.” He smirked at her and told her not to stay out too late. KC got up and tagged him.

“Race you to class.” She said running by him.

KC looked back to see him standing there shocked and stuck out her tongue at him. She tripped over her feet and fell on her back side.

U-know walked up to her laughing. “You got what you deserved cheater.”

“I did not cheat.” KC protested.

“Yes you did cheat. You started running before me. Where did you hurt yourself?” U-know asked.

“My backside now I can’t get up.” KC complained.

U-Know rolled his eyes and picked her up bridal style and started walking towards the cafeteria where everyone else was waiting for them. KC's arms went around U-know's neck for balance.

KC was embarrassed so she hid her face in U-know's neck, the rest of the gang were looking at them shocked except Roshni when they walked into the girls’ cabin.

“It's about time.” Roshni muttered.

“You guys don't know how hard it is to get Koala's out of a tree.” U-know teased KC.

KC looked at him in mock annoyance and hit him on the shoulder. U-know pretended to be hurt while laughing and put her down.

Salma looked at her cellphone and noticed the time. “Let’s go everyone or do we want to be late for class?” She asked everyone.

They all departed ways and walked towards class their respective classes. U-Know and KC bumped into Ishant and Maha on the way.

“Well...well... if it isn’t KC and her pretty boy.” Ishant leered at them.

“I'll take that as a compliment because at least being pretty is being better then you” U-know retorted. At that moment a professor walked by telling the four of them to get to class. He stood there until the four of them parted ways to go to class.

In chemistry class, Roshni was sitting in the back with her head on the desk not paying attention to the professor. She is shocked when she hears a whispered, “boo!”

She sat up startled saying I am up I am up. She looked to her right to see Hero sitting there with a smirk on his face. She glared at him. “Are you following me around? Must you do that?” She asked.

“Well there's an amazing feeling when you jerk up like that.” Hero replied amused at her reaction.

Roshni’s glare intensified a hundred times. “Do you want to know when I’ll get an amazing feeling?”

Hero nodded his head in response. “When I get my hands around your neck.” Roshni informed him wanting to choke him.

“The only time you'll ever have your hands around my neck is when you’re kissing me not killing me.” Hero whispered in her ear.

Roshni just looked at him in amazement. “I don’t get what everyone see in you. You’re so full of yourself. Someone needs to teach you a lesson.”

“Are you suggesting that someone be you?” Hero asked wiggling his eyebrows.

“As if I’ll waste my precious time on you...” Roshni replied.

“So why are you talking to me then?” Hero asked.

Roshni just looked at him with her mouth open. Hero reached over and placed two fingers under her chin closing her mouth. “You’ll get flies in there.” He said with laughter in his eyes.

“Argh...I hate you. Have I told you?” Roshni asked pleasantly.

“No you don't, you really love me you just don't want to admit it.” Hero replied.

Roshni’s eyes widened and she asked him how’d he know?

“I just know.” Hero answered.

“I was being sarcastic.”

“I'm the king of sarcasm. How do you think the boys learned to be sarcastic? So don't talk to me about sarcasm and anyway you might want to make me think your being sarcastic but in reality you love it when we chat.” Hero replied.

Roshni looked at him as if he’s lost he’s mind. “I’ve only talked to you like what twice? And you think you’re my best friend?” She tried to get up to leave but Hero pulled her back down on her seat.

“Sit down, you need to pay attention otherwise you'll get kicked out of the class.” Hero stated.

“It'll all be thanks to you because you won't leave me alone.” Roshni said angrily.

“Hey I'm just keeping you company. I don't see a line of people standing waiting to sit next to you.” Hero retorted insensitively

Roshni actually opened her textbook and started paying attention to the professor and as soon as the class was dismissed she rushed out. She walked towards the lake and sat there for a long time.

Hero wandered around the university looking for Roshni while hiding from everyone. He started to get worried when he couldn't find her. He walked to the park and walked up to the tree where she was sitting. He stopped a few few feet behind her.

“You don’t have to stay back.” She told him without turning around He walked up to her and sat down next to her. He turned to her and was surprised to see tears flowing down her face.

“Why are you crying?” He asked her softly.

“No reason.” She replied with a forced smile trying to control her tears. After a few minutes of silence with only her sniffing she looked up at him with silent tears running down her face. “See, I am not crying.”

Hero sighed, “...then what do you call this water tank leaking from your eyes? Maybe I should send you to a third world country and make you sit in a water tank and you can fill it up with your tears. At least that way those poor children will have water to drink.”

“It will taste salty and they might get sick.” She replied in a small voice.

“That’s true; you never know what little bacteria might be roaming in these little drops. Now are you going to tell me why you are crying?” Hero asked again.

Roshni just shook her head in the negative. They both sat there staring out at the lake until she suddenly turned towards him and hugged him. “Hey, what are you doing?” Hero asked surprised. She just closed her eyes and took a deep breath. He had no choice but to put his arms around her. After ten minutes Hero pulled her into his lap so they are both more comfortable. Roshni looked at him inquiringly with a hint of pink on her cheeks.

“This is more comfortable and my back doesn’t hurt this way.” Hero explained.

Roshni closed her eyes and was lost in her thoughts. I have never felt this safe with anyone since that accident.

She roused out of her drowsy state when Hero asked her not to fall asleep as he wasn’t in the best shape to carry her and also he doesn’t want to be found out.

Roshni started to laugh hysterically. “They should lock you up. You’re dangerous!!”

“If only they knew I was here.” He replied.

“If they did know I doubt you would be here sitting like this with me.” Roshni said quietly.

“What makes you say that?” He inquired.

“You wouldn't even spare me a glance.” She replied.

“What makes you think I wouldn't spare you a glance?” He asked.

“Please... look at you and look at me. We're at the end of two different spectrums, not one but two spectrums.” Roshni waves her arms emphasizing her point like a child.

“Where are you going to sleep tonight?” Roshni asked all of a sudden.

“You have no idea do you...” Roshni answered her own question when Hero refused to answer.

“You have a room in the guys' cabin.” She told him.

“I’ll probably go to the hotel nearby. I can go get the money from my bank account. Can you nick the keys off of one of the guys and I can go in there in the morning to see which room is mine?” Hero asked her.

“I’ll try.”

They were both silent for a few minutes until, “Why do you make me feel this way? Feel safe?” Roshni asked in a small voice hiding her face in his neck.

Hero was caught by the vulnerability in her voice. She sounded like a lost child. Maybe she was. He didn’t know anything about her.

“Hey, How old are you anyway?” Hero asked tightening his arms around her.

“19, you?" He could feel her breath wafting over his skin.

"I am 22." He replied

After half an hour of silence, Hero looked down to see her dozing off. He smiled to himself at the peaceful look on her face and kissed her forehead. An hour later Hero woke Roshni up and told her to go sleep in her room.

“What about you?” She asked sleepily.

“I have to go to the bank and run a few errands.” He answered.

That night the atmosphere in the girls’ cabin was awkward. Naina was smiling like the cat that got the cream but she wouldn't tell any of the girls the details. Jouty was lost in her own world which was unusual for her as she was the loudest of the crew. Salma was her usual self and Roshni had lost her lost look. KC who mothered the girls was curious as to what was going on but she knew that the girls needed space and when they were ready to share whatever it was they would come to her.

KC was in her room working on her English assignment when she heard something against her window. At first she thought she was hearing things so she ignored it but she heard it again. She got up and went to see what’s happening below her window. She is so shocked to see U-know standing there chucking stones at her window. She opened the window to yell at him to stop but U-know shushed her before she could say anything.

“Come down quick.” U-Know whispered.

KC went down stairs only to bump into Naina.

Naina looked at KC suspiciously. “Are you okay? What’s up? You look a bit jumpy.”

KC quickly made up the excuse of needing to go the dean. Naina just raised her eyebrows at the response and turned to look at the clock.

“See a friend of my dad is coming over and he needs a place to stay so I asked the dean... anyways it’s a long story. I’ll tell you when I get back.” KC rushed to clarify.

Naina warned her to be careful and to put on a coat before walking up the stairs to her room.

KC walked out the door only to have the cold hit her full force. She rubbed her hands together while walking towards U-know.

“Where is my jacket?” U-Know asked. KC decided to pull his leg and asked him what jacket looking at him confused.

“The one you had with you yesterday.” U-know told her patiently.

“But you said it wasn’t yours so I gave it away.” KC said while trying to hold in her laughter.

“WHAT? Do you want Hero to murder me as soon as he wakes up from the coma?” U-know asked panicking.

“Don't worry. I was just pulling your leg. I just wanted to see you admit it was yours. Wait a sec I’ll get it.” KC said trying to calm him.

KC turns back to go get the jacket but he stopped her and lead her to the chillax cove.

KC asked him why they were there.

“Don’t you ever just be quiet?” U-know asked.

“What are we doing out here? It’s freezing.” KC replied. U-know tried to give KC his sweater but she doesn’t accept it saying she won’t look after him if he gets sick.

“I just like spending time with you.” U-know said out of nowhere.

KC looked at him as if he’s gone crazy. “Couldn’t we spend it somewhere warm like at a cafe or at the cabin in front of the fire?”

“A cafe isn’t romantic.” U-know replied.

“...and this is?” KC asked.

“Yea look, you can see the lake from here. It calms me down.” U-know turned KC to look in that direction.

“Same here. When I want to kill you I come down here and I forget why I actually wanted to kill you.” KC whispered.

U-Know laughed at what KC said and looked at her intently. “Can I ask you a question?”

KC nodded in reply.

“Willyoubemygirfriend?” U-knows asked mumbling really fast.

“Can you say that again but in English please?” KC replied.

“Will you be my girlfriend?” U-Know asked slowly.

KC looked at U-know surprised.

After a few minutes of silence, “That is a very serious question? Can I know why you asked me?” KC asked.

“Well it was now or never and after seeing you cry for two days continuously I realized I never want to see you cry ever again and I've liked you for the longest time and when ever I am with you I feel like I can be me.” U-know replied.

“Really? You’ve liked me? But what about all those other girls?” KC asked stunned

“What other girls?” U-know asked looking at KC oddly.

“The ones you dated in first year?” KC replied.

“You know I’ve never dated anyone in this university. Those girls wanted to go out with me and spread the rumours and I never bothered to crush their dreams.” He replied.

“U-know I hope this is not a joke after what I told you in the park. If it is please stop it now. I don't think I can take it anymore. I’d rather you break my heart now then later.” KC pleaded.

U-know took her face in his hands and kissed her pouring every ounce of love he feels in the kiss.

“Still feel that this is a joke?” He asked as he broke the kiss.

KC opened her eyes and they locked with his. She saw vulnerability in his eyes that she had never seen before. U-know’s eyes showed fear rather than the confidence he usually has. He looked scared for the first time and she couldn't bear to see anxiousness in his eyes. KC took his face into her hands.

“No it’s not a joke” she replied then smiled, “and yes I’ll be your girlfriend.”

“Can you repeat that?” He asked not believing that she had agreed.

“Yes yes I’ll be your girlfriend.” KC smiled and shouted softly.

U-know picked her up and swung her round. They were both laughing with a glow on their faces. He put her down, his arms still round her waist.

“So when do you want to tell everyone? I know they are going to be shocked.” U-know asked still surprised.

“Can we please keep it quiet?” KC asked. “I just want to get used to the change in our relationship. Wow I still can't believe this.”

“Sure we can keep it a secret” U-know replied. He caressed her face. “I doubt we'll be able to keep it from Roshni though.”

“Why? KC asked.

“She just seems to know a lot more than she should and I don’t know but there is something there.” U-know replied.

KC moved out of U-know’s embrace and walked to the entrance of the cove.
“For the first time in my life I feel complete. Thank You.” KC said staring at the lake.

U-know came up behind her and put his hands around her waist pulling her into the circle of his arms. “No thank you, you don't know how complete I feel just now.” He whispered in her ear.

They stood there for awhile watching the lake lost in their own thoughts. KC turned to face U-know looking up at him.

“Is that why you brought me to the cove?” She asked him.

“No genius.” He replied smiling.

KC laughed, “of course you did.” She looked deep into his eyes and asked, “why today?”

“I actually don't know. I figured the more time I waste the less time I have to spend with you.” He replied.

“Really, you just decided you’re going to asked me today?” KC asked surprised.

“Well I just wanted to be with you and now that I am, I thought why not asked her.” U-know responded.

She walked back into the cove and sat down. She brought her hands to her mouth and started blowing into her hands. She then looked up at U-know.

“You do know you can tell me anything right and I mean anything” She said to him.

“Of course and same goes.” He says to her.

“Now why are you standing all the way there?” KC asked with a mischievous look in her eyes.

“Wow this is a completely different side to you.” U-know whispered amazed at this change in KC.

U-know walked up to her and sat down next to her and pulled her into his side and she laid her head on his shoulder.

“I think I can get used to this.” KC said.

“Me too, so meet up with me tomorrow and we'll walk to university or I can take you on my bike?” U-know asked.

“We’ll walk but for now can we just sit here” KC replied softly.

“Anything for you sweetheart.” Yunho replied.

“You know I never would have thought this would happen and now all I want to do is freeze this moment and sit here with you forever” KC snuggled into Yunho.

“I don't think I would want it to freeze because I want to make many more memories with you” U-know said looking at KC tenderly.

“The only memories I want are the ones with you-”

“And we'll make millions more.” He finished her sentence.

KC closed her eyes and breathed his scent; meanwhile U-know had his head in her hair and took a deep breath inhaling her scent. They sat like that for awhile and before KC knows it she's fallen asleep in his arms.

“Koala...” U-Know whispered.

“Well it is a bit cold out here I should take her in...” He said to himself and picked her up and started walking towards the cabin.

What am I going to say since KC doesn’t want our relationship to be known? I can just say I found her sleeping there. Yea that should work. U-Know thought.

He reached the girls cabin and knocked on the door with his shoes. Jouty opened the door and just stands there shocked staring at him carrying KC bridal style.

U-know cleared his throat trying to get Jouty’s attention as she seemed to show no sign of letting him in. Jouty moved out of the way and lead U-know to KC’s room.

He laid her on the bed as he gots up a photo frame with his picture in it caught his eye.
U-know smiled and walked towards the picture. He picked up the frame. My koala really likes me. He thought jumping in joy in his mind.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Jouty asked. U-know looked at her and told her to be quiet as KC was sleeping.

Both of them walked to the living room.

“What did you do?” Jouty asked looking at U-Know suspiciously.

“Nothing, I just found her asleep in one of the coves so I thought I'd bring her home.” U-know replied.

“You expect me to believe you?” Jouty questioned with a bit of attitude.

U-Know looked at her angrily. “I'm telling you the truth. I found her in the cove sleeping. I don't know what she was doing there maybe you should go and asked her.”

“You’re not lying to me?” Jouty asked quietly.

“No. I just brough her home.” U-know answered.

“If you say so... Now can you kindly leave?” Jouty asked.

“Let me just go grab my jacket. I left it in her room.” U-Know said.

While U-Know went to get his jacket, Naina walked into the living room asking about all the noise.

Roshni also walked in rubbing her eyes.

“U-Know just brought KC home sleeping in his arms and says that he found her sleeping in the cove.” Jouty told them doubtfully.

“He’s probably telling the truth.” Roshni reassured her with a yawn.

U-know walked back into the living room to see the three girls looking at him.

Naina shook her head, started to walk back up the stairs and bumped into KC.

“KC I told you to be careful and yet you fell asleep out there.” Naina reprimanded her quietly.

KC looked at Naina confused.

“U-know brought you home. He says that he found you asleep in the chillax cove.” Jouty elaborated.

“I probably did fall asleep. One minute I was sitting there watching the lake and the next I know I am in my room.” KC said looking at U-know with a repressed smile.

U-Know looked at Jouty and said, “Happy now? You really are like a drill sergeant Jouty. Maybe you should join the army.”

“Ha-ha-ha...Very funny.” Jouty replied.

Before this argument could go any further, KC asked U-know to come up to her room because she had to give him some forms the principle gave to the class representatives.

KC and U-Know walked into her room and closed the door. KC burst out laughing.

“I think we have them fooled.” U-know said placing his keys on the table.

She laid her forehead on his chest

“How are we going to do this everyday?” KC asked softly.

“Don't worry we'll get through this.” U-know reassured her and he kissed her for the second time that day. She wrapped her hands round his neck as the kiss deepened.

They don’t hear the knock on the door or the door being opened. They both jumped apart when they heard, “Oops, wrong time again.”

They turned to see Roshni standing by the door looking at them with huge eyes.

Roshni turned around tried to walk out of the room but U-know grabbed her and pulled her in.

“I didn’t see anything. I promise.” Roshni said quietly.

U-know looked at her suspiciously and told KC to lock the door.

Once the door is locked Roshni looked at them and sarted to back away until her back hits KC’s desks.

“You guys aren't going to murder me and hide me under the floor boards are you?” Roshni asked with an awkward laugh. As she said this she picked up U-Knows keys and hid them in her pocket.

“You can’t tell anyone about what you just saw.” U-know said threateningly.

Roshni pretended not to know what they were talking about.

“We know you saw us. Please keep this quiet. I don't want anyone to know about me and U-know. I just want to get used to this change and spend quality time with U-know.” KC whispered.

“I better get going.” U-know said after a few minutes of silence.

Roshni looked at them and rolled her eyes. She turned around and walked out closing the door. U-Know turned to look at KC. “Now where were we?” He asked her.

“I think you were leaving.” KC replied.

“Tyring to get rid of me that quickly?” U-know asked.

“Go or the others will get suspicious.” KC answered.

U-Know pulled her into his arms, gave her a chaste kiss on the lips and walked out of the room forgetting all about his keys.

Outside the room he is met by Roshni who walks with him to the door.

“Where’s the drill sergeant?” U-know asked with a smile.

“Sleeping.” Roshni replied.

U-know checked his pockets for his keys."Oh no I left my keys in KC's room. Oh well I guess one of the guys will have to open the door. Goodnight." He walked out of there talking on the cellphone with Micky asking him to open the door.

Roshni started to close the door but she saw someone standing by the tree a further down. To her surprise it’s Hero.

“I thought you were going to stay at the hotel.” Roshni whispered walking upto him.

“Couldn’t sleep” Hero replied.

“I’ve got something for you.” Roshni said showing him the keys. “I hate stealing. You better make a copy quick so I can return the key.”

Hero laughed softly. “You didn't steal it...you borrowed it. I'll give it back to you tomorrow. I owe you one. Thanks."
